Church of Our Saviour is looking for a Sexton to join our team in San Gabriel, CA.

Working as part of a team with 2 other sextons, the sexton team fulfills a vital role at the Church of Our Saviour by maintaining clean and welcoming facilities; interacting with congregation members, visitors, vendors and clients in a courteous manner; efficiently providing furniture set-up and break-down to make our events possible; and securing the buildings on the property.

The purpose of the sexton is
*to keep church building and grounds clean and orderly
*perform basic preventative maintenance and repairs
*set up church/rooms for use as needed.

This sexton position is full-time and due to the liturgical calendar, sextons share holiday (Easter, Christmas, etc.) workloads on campus.

Responsibilities:

• Daily review of church calendar for upcoming campus needs.
• Keep all church entrances and yard clear of debris/litter. Keep leaves, sand, and dirt away from entrances.
• Set up and break down tables, chairs and equipment for meetings and events daily, including for events (weddings, funerals, etc.) indoors and outdoors
• Open and close facilities daily, including temperature control, lighting, audio/visual as needed. Close and lock entrances/exits as required each day and after special events.
• Monitor heating/cooling thermostats making sure they are turned on/off as required.
• Clean offices, meeting and worship spaces according to daily, weekly and monthly schedules.
• Basic handyman skills to fix plumbing (sinks and toilets), electrical (outlets and lighting), outdoor repairs (gates, fountains, doors), and equipment (kitchen, landscape, etc.) preferred
• Clean restrooms and restock paper/sanitizing supplies daily.
• Wash windows and doors, and sweep, vacuum, dust and mop floors according to schedule.
• Empty wastebaskets and trash cans; organize and move landfill, compost and recyclables containers to proper locations according to schedule.
• Clean kitchen, including large commercial stove and refrigerators, trash removal, mopping, etc.
• Maintain outdoor areas daily, including blowing, sweeping, washing, picking up trash and disposing of animal and human waste.
• Maintain floors including carpet cleaning, stripping and cleaning stone and concrete floors, polishing tile floors, and power washing outdoor surfaces as needed.
• Use janitorial power equipment such as carpet cleaners, electric/gas blowers, and power washers in a safe and professional manner and properly maintain such equipment.
• Make sure all tools, lawnmowers, tables, chairs, etc., are properly maintained and stored after each use.
• Keep supervisor, senior warden and/or rector advised of dangers/concerns about the condition and maintenance of buildings and grounds. Report maintenance and/or repair needs.
• Follow established safety procedures.
• Perform special cleaning projects as assigned.
• Attend meetings and trainings as assigned.
• Other tasks as assigned.

Skills:

• Alignment with and commitment to the mission, vision and values of Church of Our Saviour.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least three years of related janitorial or custodial experience strongly preferred.
• Able to perform routine maintenance and basic repairs, such as painting, plumbing, electrical, landscaping and grounds maintenance.
• Able to lift 50 pounds, bend, pull and push, and climb stairs and ladders as required.
• Able to perform, on a daily basis, moving tables, stacking chairs, moving and setting up staging units, and occasionally move office furniture.
• Able to use cleaning and maintenance as well as power tools and other materials and equipment safely. Ensures areas of use and storage are maintained clean and orderly at all times.
• Able to interact courteously and respectfully with diverse staff, volunteers, congregation members, visitors, vendors and clients.
• A dependable, energetic achiever who holds themselves to high standards of job performance and ethical behavior
• High level of attention to detail.
• Able to work with a variable work schedule, depending on the season and events on the church calendar. Scheduled work shifts vary from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm. Occasional overtime may be required and is compensated as legally required.
• Must be able to work Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Easter and Thanksgiving as assigned; alternate days off are provided in coordination with your supervisor. Working on holidays and other events are shared by sexton team.
• Criminal background clearance required post offer.

90-day probationary period.
