AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program dedicated to ending poverty by building the capacity of nonprofit organizations and public agencies. VISTA's mission is to strengthen and supplement efforts in low-income communities to eliminate and alleviate poverty by engaging volunteers from all walks of life, all geographical areas, and all age groups in a year of full-time service.
By joining Volunteer Corps at L.A.

Works, you will be placed with one of our nonprofit partner organizations to serve for 12 months and tasked with a capacity-building project such as: creating sustainable systems to expand services, recruiting community members to volunteer in local programs, establishing a database of program alumni, and/or developing partnerships to bring new economic opportunities in LA county.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be 18 years or older

School on Wheels, Inc.

is a nonprofit organization made up of hundreds of volunteers who give their time and talents to support the educational needs of children (K-12) experiencing homelessness who have a daily struggle in accomplishing their number one job: learning.

School on Wheels (SOW) mission is to enhance educational opportunities for children experiencing homelessness, from kindergarten through the twelfth grade.

Our goal is to shrink the gaps in their education and provide them with the highest quality education possible.


To strengthen and sustain School on Wheels' Middle and High School Programs, the VISTA Middle and High School Coordinator (MHSC) will develop, test, and establish processes that will enable our organization to provide more effective and specialized support to students in grades 5 through 12.

Projects will require ongoing internal and external collaborations, attention to detail, and clear communication.

The VISTA MHSC will work closely with our programs team members and have the opportunity to learn about educational approaches for students experiencing homelessness as well as best practices in educational non-profit evaluation.


Pay:
$2,054.00 per month
