Reporting to, and in collaboration with the VP of Government and Community Relations, develop and execute a strategic communications plan using communications tools to connect with key audiences, build our company image, and drive interest in Lithium Americas, our projects, electrification, and battery use.
This person would also collaborate with PR agencies on contract with LAC to carry out the responsibilities outlined below.The position will be based in Reno, Nevada. Travel will be required as necessary.
Responsibilities
Content Production:
Regularly produce compelling stories and updates on project construction and operations and place with mainstream media and/or distribute through blogs, newsletters, editorials, and other social media
Topics could include:
Hiring and employee career development
Economic benefits from purchasing and other project-related commerce
Management of community impacts such as the construction of a transloading facility and temporary housing facility.
Management of construction and operations environmental impacts (dust control, noise mitigation, traffic planning)
Other new developments with the company
Media Inquiries:
Serve as the first point of contact for media inquiries regarding Thacker Pass:
Conduct initial background interviews.
Follow-up with detailed written background information as necessary
Meet with media in Nevada to coordinate photo shoots/live interviews
Follow-up with corrections when necessary
Build and maintain positive/long-term relationships with the media
Develop and Execute Preparedness Communications Plans:
Including but not limited to the following:
Crisis communications plan
Communications plans for anticipated changes during construction and operations such as the finalizing of project financing
Develop and execute a robust internal communications plan to ensure the Lithium Nevada team is well informed of developments and can effectively serve as company ambassadors.
Editorial plan for LNC employees and other supporters of carbon reduction through electrification.Other responsibilities include:
Monitor media coverage and ensure appropriate responses in a timely manner; develop and maintain positive professional relationships with members of the media.
Serve as copyeditor and/or ghostwriter for company leaders as necessary.
Coordinate interviews and photo shoots for issues pertaining to LAC construction and operations.
Ensure the websites, social media, and other digital channels are aligned with communications efforts and are up to date with news releases, articles, etc.
Work with digital marketing to create a digital newsroom.Help evaluate and identify events that LAC should be attending/sponsoring to reach our target audiences. Determine our presence and help manage logistics. Create and manage cross-channel pre- and post-event communications to drive awareness & connections.
Other duties as assigned.
This position excludes Investor Relations Communications but would require regular interaction with the Investor Relations team to ensure consistent and complimentary communications.
RequirementsBachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field
Minimum 5 to 7 years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in public relations, communications and/or social media roles, preferably in extractive industries.
Excellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong organizational skills with attention to detail
Superior writing and editing skills, with a capacity for SEO-friendly headlines and content.
Experience driving strategic programs that deliver results, both in-house and with an agency.
Demonstrated results obtaining story placements and media coverage.
Experience managing and optimizing events to generate leads.
Strong project management, collaboration, and presentation skills.
Ability to work with senior leadership, employees, media, and the larger community.
Ability to coordinate efforts of various teams in order to present a coherent message.
Ability to offer sound media relations advice to senior leadership.
Excellent interpersonal skills
Experience using CRM to capture and manage leads.
Experience using project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Aha, Asana)
Understanding of social platforms, algorithms, and engagement best practices
