FOOD SERVICE COORDINATOR - Chicago Lights Summer Day

Program Description

  • Summer Day provides dynamic summer learning and enrichment to 100 students through creative academic, arts, and enrichment programming to combat summer learning loss. For six weeks each summer, Summer Day is a safe place for students to learn and grow by sharpening their academic skills in language arts and math and engaging in music, dance, acting, art, and meditation.

Summary Description

  • Chicago Lights Summer Day provides nutritious meals to students engaging in summer learning in literacy, math, and the arts. The Food Service Coordinator assists in the food service process from preparing menus, preparing food, serving food, record keeping, meeting local and federal government standards, and more.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with the Summer Food Service Program (through the Illinois State Board of Education) meal tracking and reporting.
  • Ensure conformance with all policies, procedures, guidelines, and government and accrediting agency standards regarding food safety, storage, preparation, handling, sanitation, record keeping, and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist in food preparation by sanitizing food preparation areas, reading menus, collecting supplies, and turning on equipment.
  • Assist in the preparation, cooking, and serving of food according to proper codes.
  • Oversee cleaning of all food preparation and service areas (including equipment and all serving items)
  • Interact with staff, volunteers, and students.
  • Adhere to the Tutoring and Summer Day Programs' employee policies.
  • Provide traumainformed care to all, ensuring that program environments and interactions are safe, inviting, and demonstrate best practices.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.

Schedule

  • This is a seasonal, limited parttime position.
  • Summer Day is in session from June 2
  • Aug. 2. (no programming on July 4 & 5).

The schedule for this position is:
Monday - Thursday, 7 am-11 am Fridays; Aug. 2nd, 7 am-3 pm

  • Additionally, there is a mandatory Staff Meeting on June 12 from 5:30 pm7 pm.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Food service sanitation certificate required
:


  • Minimum of 3 years of food service experience.
  • K12/ Health care/ University food service experience is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to build relationships.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds and to push or pull up to 100 pounds; stand for long periods, stoop, bend, kneel to put away supplies; and to balance large trays. Requires strong vision and hearing for communication with students and staff and for proper preparation of food and reading labels.
  • Dependable and timely.
  • Appreciation for working with adults and children between the ages of 6 through 1
  • Understanding of and commitment to providing traumainformed care.
  • Strong work ethic and judgment, apparent collaboration skills, and a commitment to Chicago Lights' mission.
