Duties:


The Registered Nurse - Substance Abuse Treatment Program (Float) covers various MH Outpatient Clinics, SARRTP (Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program) and 1F MH Inpatient Psych units as needed. The SATP RN will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team(s) to promote wellness and high quality patient care. The SATP RN Float Nurse is a vital member of the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Team. The SATP RN Float Nurse uses the nursing process and evidence-based practice to collaborate with the core team, which includes, the Veteran and/or family, Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Nurse Practitioner(s), fellow Case Managers/LCSW and the MSA. The incumbent is responsible for working closely with Licensed Independent Providers to assure high quality care to the Veterans with Psychiatric/MH needs and to foster independent living through appropriate management of the client's mental illness and available resources.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Glucometer checks and patient safety rounds, environmental rounds: q1 hour, random room searches, vital signs when admitted 3X/day, more frequently when abnormal, collect UDS and Alco-sensor screenings as necessary. The Staff RN oversees the day-to-day routine and reports any discrepancies to the Nurse Manager or Providers, document admission assessments, re-assessments, care plans, falls, skin assessment and discharges. The RN facilitates daily huddles and participates in admission screenings along with other Interdisciplinary team members. RNs facilitate Nurse led groups M-F and on the weekends. They assess and monitor the Veterans for safe medication management, conduct weekly medication counts (all Veterans), provide education and ongoing assessment of adverse reactions. Nursing staff transport Veterans to and from SARRTP/main building for admissions, group therapy, labs, x-rays and appointments. RN/LPN-establish therapeutic relationships to enhance trauma-sensitive experiences using therapeutic intervention (Nurse may be trained and complete competencies to provide care for Veterans with specialized needs). Nurses must create and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, conduct frequent EOC and safety rounds. Provide psychoeducation and health teaching in individual or group settings to promote a healthy, recovery and goal-oriented milieu. Nursing play a key role in safe medication management (SMM), counting, administering, monitoring and educating Veterans. Nurse will float to multiple departments to provide coverage as staffing challenges occur. Must maintain a driving profile per RIC VAMC transportation policy, other related job related duties as needed.
