Pay Range $ $43.67 Hourly

Job Description:


We have an opening for a Principal Material Handler to perform difficult and complex material handling duties in the Supply & Distribution, Institutional Support & Supply Services Division (SDD).

You will be responsible for performing material handling duties related to the receipt of materials, parts, supplies, and equipment. You will serve as a principal resource working primarily in Receiving and Distribution, Shipping, Mail Services or NIF. This position is in the Asset Management Department within the Business Directorate.

You will


Perform difficult and complex material handler tasks using inventory control systems in compliance with applicable LLNL policies, procedures, ES&H standards, and Health & Safety manual, and federal, state, and local environmental, safety and health regulations.

Receive, separate, secure and distribute material requiring special handling in accordance with regulations, Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, LLNL policies, and Supply & Distribution procedures, while cognizant of the related security and safety hazards and proper hazardous material receiving and forwarding.

Provide information in response to inquiries and solve problems of moderate scope and complexity, working within a framework of standard policies and procedures, laws, and regulations demonstrating excellent customer service, and good verbal and written communication skills.

Transmit records from bar code readers or other handheld devices into the property management system or the receiving systems to create property "receipt" and accountability records and create reports to ensure proper tracking and reconciliation.

Operate motor vehicles, small hand and power tools, and material handling equipment, such as forklifts, skids, pallet handlers, and hand trucks.

Verify a wide variety of material against shipping/receiving documents, noting and reporting obvious damage to ensure accurate receiving records are kept and maintained.

Ability to work in inclement weather conditions, rain, hot, or cold and maintain space management and organization.

Ability to research, interpret, apply, and communicate difficult and complex regulations, including the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 49, Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, International Air Transportation Association (IATA), Dangerous Goods regulations, Export Control Information and Technology and LLNL policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
Extensive practical knowledge of material handling operations, techniques, methods, and regulatory requirements.
Specialized knowledge of environment, safety and health standards, and policies and procedures to identify hazardous conditions and operations.

Experience with high level problem solving and decision-making skills necessary to independently identify appropriate material handling procedural actions and solutions.

Demonstrated organizational skills, detail oriented, with proven experience prioritizing tasks with frequent interruptions and distractions, often with short deadlines.

Proven ability to work independently as well as function as a teammate to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Department/Organization.

Must be flexible and willing to accept change of assignment, start times, shift, emergency overtime work, and/or additional duties to ensure high value/high priority materials are delivered on time.

Ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Certification within three months from date of hire, which requires a current CA Driver's License, State Driver Record (current driver record from Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) at the time of hire, required annually thereafter), CMV training, CMV Road Test, and Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Evaluation (separate/additional to pre-hire medical evaluation, required every 2 years thereafter).

Ability to obtain and maintain Powered Industrial Truck license. Ability to become a qualified licensed NIF Radiation Worker I.

Qualifications we desire

Demonstrated knowledge of LLNL Health & Safety manual, ES&H standards, policies and procedures.
Experience with institutional purchasing program, LINCS.
Experience with Glovia.
