Job Summary:

Under direction, is responsible for administering the San Antonio Public Library's age specific programs. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff.

Central Library - 600 Soledad, San Antonio, Texas 78205


Work Schedule
Hours vary and may include weekends.


Essential Job Functions:


  • Plans, develops, and promotes program and outreach activities that further the Library's goals.
  • Delivers age appropriate programs for the Library and travels to and from scheduled venues.
  • Ensures operations, activities, and services are compliant with applicable Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Solicits partnerships with other agencies or organizations that support related services.
  • Drives continuous improvement of programs and services.
  • Informs management of potential impacts to services as well as matters of noncompliance with City policies and procedures.
  • Supports and maintains Library Services goals, objectives, policies, and priorities.
  • Coordinates and prepares reports and recommendations; composes correspondence, and represents Library at meetings.
  • Acts as a resource to and serves as a liaison between department and external contacts.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of related experience with an early childhood group/service or with schoolaged children in an educational setting or with high schoolaged teens client group/service or with adult client group/service.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Optimistic and welcoming approach to customer interactions.
  • Positive experience working in public service.
  • Spanish language proficiency.

Applicant Information

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related fulltime experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of fulltime experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
  • Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from preemployment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.

  • Knowledge of safe, enriching, and developmentally appropriate activities for assigned age groups.
  • Knowledge of program planning, development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of library principles, methods, materials, and practices.
  • Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations.
  • Ability to prepare and present comprehensive studies and reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
