The city of Ulm, a university and science city and with Neu-Ulm a cross-border twin center (population), is an economic and cultural hub between Stuttgart and Munich with a high recreational value and a comprehensive range of educational institutions.

At the beginning of the 2026/2027 season, the position of
Artistic Director (m/f/d)
Full-time, fixed-term
is to be filled.

The Ulm Theater, Germany's oldest municipal theater, is a three-division house (drama, opera, concerts (B-orchestra), ballet/dance theater) with a regional impact, around 300 employees, 5,700 subscribers and approximately 460 performances as well as around 25 new productions per season. It is managed as a municipal production company. The theater has two stages and additionally plays at the Wilhelmsburg every two years as a large summer stage, as well as occasionally at other locations in the city.

Your tasks:

  • Joint management of the Ulm Theater with the administrative director
  • Responsibility for the innovative programmatic orientation and profiling of the artistic offerings of the Ulm Theater
  • Development of a high-quality program with socio-political relevance and a focus on the audience and the city society, as well as its implementation with the team
