Position Summary

  • The NCAA Financial Aid Services Counselor is responsible for representing the University and division of Enrollment Management to current and perspective families with regard to access, affordability, and financing options. Additionally, this individual is responsible for the athletic scholarship awarding process and use of ARMS software for financial aid tracking. This is a fulltime position. Some evenings and weekend work required. The counselor reports to the Director of Financial Aid Services.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Serving as both a counselor and processing/regulatory technician, the Financial Aid Services Counselor embodies the core values of the university in every aspect of his/her role working with internal and external constituencies

The Counselor will:

  • Partner with prospective and current student athletes to obtain the necessary resources to finance their Roosevelt University education.
  • Increase student satisfaction and retention by providing exemplary customer service and proactive student finance and student support to a caseload of students
  • Follow NCAA guidelines in the preparation of student athlete financial aid offers and maintenance of the student athlete aid agreements.
  • Provide information to students and parents as to the various options of financial aid and financing options.
  • Communicate the federal, state, NCAA and institutional policies and procedures in a manner that displays understanding of the rationale and the value of the policy or procedure to the student
  • Leverage technology and systems, including ARMS software, to effectively and efficiently service students and families.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments to ensure a consistently outstanding educational experience for our deserving students
  • Provide timely followup to resolve issues.
  • Coordinate financial aid outreach programs and provide college specific financial aid presentations at internal and external events.
  • Identify opportunities and solutions that improve current processes; Participates in special projects and campaigns
  • Complete other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor's Degree

Certification/Licensure Required

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of 1year experience working in financial aid, NCAA compliance, student accounts or related experience.
  • Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt's core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • A positive and professional demeanor with a strong emphasis on customer service is a must.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Banner financial aid module or ARMS software a plus.
  • Experience assisting students and families from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.

Equipment Operated

  • Office equipment (desktop computer, office copier/ multifunction device and phone). Use of vehicle for travel to events and college fairs.

Working Conditions

  • No
rmal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds of weight or pressure). Regular use of desktop computer is required, calling for frequent hand/wrist movement and repetition. Moderate level of stress. Occasional travel within the local or regional setting may be required.
