CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure high academic standards, set goals and do what it takes to achieve them.
  • Develop positive relationships with students.
  • Develop positive relationships with families for the purpose of creating support for students and their growth.
  • Support teacher with set up and clean up for all lab demonstrations; moving activity bins, scales, hot plates, and other equipment around the classroom.
  • Provide support and physical presence around the classroom by teaching (occasionally), monitoring students in the back and tight areas of the room, and providing feedback to the teacher about students' progress.
  • Teach or lead activities during pressure and restroom breaks.
  • Ensure safety during labs by being a standing presence trained to use a fire extinguisher and react quickly in the case of an emergency.
  • Support the teacher in loading/unloading school supplies and assisted devices from their vehicle.
  • Assist in cleaning up broken glass and spills.
  • Provide support in moving items from the floor or from higher storage areas, stocking school
- supplies, organizing projects, moving posters and other supplies for better accessibility.

  • Assist the teacher with grading and entering grades.
  • Walk with students during fire drills, outdoor projects, and field trips.
  • Make copies of notes for students.
  • Assist in guiding students to notes and activities for makeup work.
  • Help support classroom environment with positive reinforcement, activity directions,
- and monitoring student behavior.

  • Be available and prepared to lead parts of the lesson so that the teacher may move from table to table to work through misunderstandings, one on one and in small groups, with the students.
  • Fill in as teacher, continuing with current objectives, so that students will not lose instructional time when the teacher is away from the classroom for medical appointments or due to illness.
  • Support classroom management in a respectful manner that is consistent with the school wide rules and Acero Schools Student Code of Conduct.
  • Exhibit professionalism, leadership, and personal responsibility for daily work and attendance, personal appearance, student learning, and school success.
  • Demonstrate collegial behavior and make positive contributions to the school community.
  • Believe in our ability to create the future we envision.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: 60 Credit Hours of Higher Education (preferred).
  • Be able to demonstrate the academic progress of students under your leadership and articulate the methods used to achieve those results.
  • Possess valid Illinois Paraprofessional Educator License (PARA) or equivalent (required).
  • Residency in Chicago is not required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States (required).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Majority of work is performed in a general school environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization-sponsored events and meetings.
