AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #1:
Registered Outpatient Pharmacy Technician
(List summary of duties and responsibilities):

1. Validates patient identity and screens prescriptions for completeness, formulary/restriction and payment status, prior to processing.
2. Retrieves written or electronically transmitted prescriptions, types prescription.
3. Accurately keys and retrieves prescription data from computer generated file for review by pharmacist.
4. Retrieves electronic patient records and locates prescriptions.
5. Prepare prescriptions for verification by a Pharmacist. Counting dosage units of drugs
Placing dosage units of drugs in appropriate containers.
Affixing the prescription label to the containers.
Handles or delivers completed prescriptions to patient or person authorized to act on behalf of the patient and, in accordance with regulations, and advices of availability of counselling to be conducted by licensed pharmacist or intern.
7. Obtain data for determining prescription cost.
8. Restocks automated dispensing cabinets after verification by a pharmacist must complete restocking log per policy.
9. Prepares manual records of dispensing for the signature or initials of the pharmacist.
10. Calculates insurance coverage of pharmacy transaction.
11. Assists the Pharmacist, as directed, in compounding ("compounding" means the combining, admixing, mixing, diluting, pooling, reconstituting, or otherwise altering of a drug or bulk drug substance to create a drug), preparing, labeling or dispensing of compounding drugs used to fill valid prescription or medication order for a patient.
12. Performs pharmacyrelated clerical duties.
13. Attends and/or participates in staff departmental and interdisciplinary meetings, training and quality assurance/performance improvement (QA/PI) activities, as required.
14. Performs other functions, as directed by the pharmacist.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #2:
Duties of Registered Inpatient Pharmacy Technician
(List summary of duties and responsibilities):

1. Triage calls
2. Delivers medications to all units and exchanges cassettes.
3. Fills patients specific labels which must be checked by a Pharmacist.
4. Prepares medications for restocking of Pyxis Machines after which must be checked by Pharmacist.
5. Checks for expired medications in Pyxis as well as all areas of the Pharmacy and performs unit inspections.
6. Fills Anesthesia trays using RFID Tray System and delivers/exchanges them after verification by a pharmacist.
7. Prepare Par Stock for nonPyxis areas and clinics.
8. Maintains stock inventories for main pharmacy and satellites.
9. Reconciles narcotic discrepancies in OR (Anesthesia) in inservices new residents on how to use Pyxis System.
10. Narcotic Technician delivers Narcotics, and performs some nonprofessional clerical duties.
11.IV-Room Technician retrieves premixed medication bags and affixes labels on them for pharmacist to verify. keeps medication inventories of stock medications, diluents, and supplies including ordering from the medical stores (central Supply)
Brings medication vials and diluents for pharmacists to mix and prepare.
Delivers TPN and other preparations to the nursing units.
Prepares Vial-ToBag IV Preparations to be verified by a pharmacist.
Maintains Vial-ToBag production log.
Maintains IV-Room preparation logs and stat
