DRIVER SUPERVISOR/DIPATCHER JOB DESCRIPTION


This position works in conjunction with the Fleet Manager assisting in all phases of distribution logistics including daily directing of inter-company transfers, trailers and bulk deliveries, scheduling truck maintenance, record keeping and driver safety meetings assists in creating, communicating, and coordinating efficient routes on a daily basis for all delivery trucks in the dispatcher's location, and assists in maintaining all paperwork in compliance with required record keeping needed for DOT, CHP, local city licenses.

Another key for this position is maximizing delivery services in a safe and efficient manner.

This position supervises drivers and coordinates special requirements with the Shipping Manager, Production Manager, Sales Manager, and Customer Service Manager.


Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for daily "Yard Checks"
  • Assist in planning departmental events, meetings, employee team building activities or special projects.
  • Perform general office duties to assist Fleet Management
  • Direct activities related to dispatching, routing or tracking transportation vehicles for optimization of driver performance
  • Develop amiable, genuine and supportive relations with drivers, internal staff, and external customers and vendors
  • Answer phone calls with professionalism and good ethics, address driver communications and provide required information to drivers, customer service representatives, and customers
  • Anticipate and resolve delivery delays and/or driver or equipment problems
  • Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, environmental policies, or government policies.
  • Monitor hours of service and keep drivers within legal operating limits.
  • Evaluate employee's performance in an attempt to provide feedback, recognize quality performance and set expectations for future job performance
  • Understands, interprets, and ensures adherences to applicable Department of Transportation regulations
  • Work with maintenance department to ensure all trucks are serviced and working properly
  • Issue necessary equipment and supplies to drivers such as gloves, safety glasses, delivery tickets, etc.
  • Back up driver as needed
  • Other Duties as assigned

Requirements and Skills
Responsible for managing the execution, direction, and coordination of transportation matters within the organization.

Reviewing shipment materials before distribution, collaborating with transportation systems to ensure prompt shipment pick-ups, and monitoring shipment costs and productivity processes

Ensuring that vehicles are safe and meet legal requirements.

Coordinate and manage truck drivers' schedules to ensure products and goods are picked up and delivered on time.

Planning routes and load scheduling for multi-drop deliveries.

Ensuring all partners in the supply chain are working effectively and efficiently to ensure smooth operations.

Review truck drivers' logs.

Logging customer shipping schedules and complaints.


Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of two years' relevant experience.

Skilled in creating efficient routes and managing driver schedules to ensure on-time delivery.

A highly organized and detail-oriented professional.

Understanding of DOT safety regulations.

Tact, diplomacy, and calmness, especially when dealing with tired drivers and disgruntled customers.

Excellent communication skills when giving and receiving information
