Deputy Director of ODA

***
POSITION OVERVIEW:***The Director of Data Inquiry resides in the Office of Data and Accountability within the Schools Division of Boston Public Schools, reporting to the Deputy Director of ODA. The Director of Data Inquiry will lead a team of nine Accelerated Improvement and Inquiry Managers (AIIMs) and work with Regional School Superintendents, regional liaisons, and school leaders to foster a culture of data inquiry within schools, regions, and system-wide. The Director will lead the implementation of data inquiry practices across all BPS schools, through which teams of educators make evidence-based adjustments to teaching and learning in order to close opportunity and achievement gaps. The Director will lead the differentiation and deployment of intensive inquiry coaching and services within regions to bolster district-wide instructional expectations through maintaining a focus on results, modeling principles of effective data use, creating the conditions for team learning, partnering in effective feedback, and facilitating with purpose. The position will have a particular emphasis on collaborating and coordinating inquiry support within the regional model and improving systems to progress monitor implementation, quality, and impact of data inquiry coaching.

RESPONSIBILITIES:***
_ Supervision and Coaching_

  • Directly supervise nine members of the BPS Inquiry Team within the Office of Data and Accountability

  • Develop the BPS Inquiry Team by leveraging their strengths and supporting their areas of growth through clear, ongoing, and actionable coaching, feedback, and by meeting regularly with direct reports

:


  • Provide guidance, observation, feedback, and support to the BPS Inquiry Team as they develop coaching relationships and through project management

:


  • Onboard new team members. Support their development through structured collaborative coaching, amplifying opportunities to reflect on successes, and engaging in shared problem solving

:


  • Design leadership opportunities to formally distribute leadership responsibilities, leverage assets and expertise of current team members, and create pathways for development and differentiation.******
    _Collaboration and Learning_

  • Develop and maintain structures to promote collaboration, cohesion, and a high standard of excellence among the Inquiry Team

:


  • Support the team's collective sense of efficacy by structuring multiple feedback opportunities including monthly peer observations, professional development feedback loops, and annual 360 feedback

:


  • Serve as a coplanner and thought partner for weekly Inquiry team meetings. This includes establishing an arc of objectives for team meetings, conferencing with facilitators to finalize weekly objectives, differentiating support and feedback to weekly facilitators

  • Orchestrate an annual internal inquiry cycle which is a multimonth process intended to result in "double loop" learning grounded in the team's collective next level of development. Manage data collection and analysis of measures of implementation and impact

  • Identify opportunities to strengthen strategic data use at the school, region, department, and Schools Division by collaborating across priority teams in ODA.******
    _Leadership_

  • Serve as an expert in responsible student data use and how to leverage BPS data systems and assessment

  • Serve as an advocate and champion of inquiry by spreading best practices, identifying opportunities for alignment and collaboration with other district initiatives, and modeling a relentless focus on evidence

:


  • Serve on the ODA leadership team which includes all ODA Directors. The ODA leadership team is responsible for establishing common departmental supervisory and team management processes, reinforcing department messaging and directives, and leading implementation of the department's strategic vision

:


  • Pilot new adaptations to data inquiry coaching. Field test potential adjustments and facilitate evaluation of effectiveness of new approaches. Adjust coaching models as needed before scaling districtwide. Support other team members in implementing new processes that have been proven effective

  • Jointly with the Deputy Director, facilitate consistent messaging of inquiry principles and practices districtwide

:


  • Jointly with the Deputy Director, establish close working relationships with Regional Superintendents, Academic Leads, Transformation Leads, and other key stakeholders (both centrally and schoolbased) who directly support school leaders and teacher leaders in order to ensure coherence in professional development and strategic differentiation and targeting of coaching services
