This position is in the unclassified service and incumbent is appointed and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor in accordance with Chapters IV and V of the City Charter.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


Key Responsibilities:


  • Staff the Mayor at press events to capture content for social media posts.
  • Support effective communication between the City of Hartford and the public, responding to inquiries and providing accurate information.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of press conferences, public meetings, and other city events.
  • Assist in the development and dissemination of press releases, newsletters, social media content, and other communication materials.
  • Contribute to maintaining city websites and social media platforms, ensuring content is current and engaging.
  • Conduct research on a variety of topics, including city policies, initiatives, and community issues.
  • Monitor media coverage and compile media reports on issues relevant to the City of Hartford.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment with some travel to different sites. Incumbent may be required to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in various social media platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fastpaced environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to organization.
  • Knowledge of community issues, and the media landscape in Hartford is a plus.

HARTFORD RESIDENCY REQUIRED

In accordance with Article XVIII, Section 2-850 of the Municipal Code, you must establish Hartford residency within six (6) months, and you are required to maintain Hartford residency for the duration of your appointment.

A completed CITY OF HARTFORD RESIDENCY AFFIDAVIT
including proof of residency as indicated on the RESIDENCY AFFIDAVIT
may be submitted.
A COPY OF YOUR DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE ATTACHED TO YOUR APPLICATION. A DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT SUBMITTED WILL BE VERIFIED BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT.
