Essential Job Functions:

The Youth Outreach Specialist brings the Library out into the community by enthusiastically promoting Library services.

Under the direct supervision of the Youth Programming Assistant Manager and with an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the Youth Outreach Specialist will:


  • Plan, organize, and provide offsite programming for relevant age groups. Schedule in internal scheduling software. Attend community outreach events and meetings to promote the library. Create a fun and engaging environment and convey the library's mission and purpose. Plan and prepare interactive activities for outreach events.
  • Foster positive relationships in the community by collaborating with local organizations and maintaining connections with partners.
  • Transport, set up and tear down displays. Order promotional giveaways. Maintain an inventory of display equipment and materials. Evaluate outreach success. Track metrics for outreach event attendance.
  • Identify key audiences, partners, and neighborhoods for outreach with special emphasis on diversity and inclusion. Assist with developing systemwide outreach strategies.
  • Identify and schedule opportunities for library outreach in the community.
  • Assist with system wide training to staff on successful outreach measures.
  • Stay informed about events and outreach opportunities in the community. Support special projects with established community partners.
  • Lead and/or participate in staff committees. Collaborate with public service staff to plan and develop outreach efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience*:


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university.
  • At least 1 year experience working with the relevant age group and/or experience in public libraries.
  • A valid State of Indiana Librarian Certification
  • Level 5, or obtained within three years of hire as a condition of employment.

Hours:


  • Normal workweek is 40 hours.
  • Frequent evenings and weekends for community event involvement.

Wages:

Starting/Hiring Range:$ $21.59, Hourly

Total Salary Range:$ $25.19, Hourly


Requirements:


  • Public service orientation and commitment to excellent and genuine customer service.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstration of character and integrity in all situations while upholding SJCPL's ethical standards.
  • Experience working with and proficiency with computers, including Internet, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Windows and Mac OS and communication technologies.
  • Knowledge of library materials and services appropriate for a variety of patrons in relevant age group.
  • Physical agility and strength to bend, reach, lift, and move up to 50lbs. and to stand for long periods of time.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable with public speaking.
  • Spanish language skills preferred.
