    POSITION SUMMARY:
    The Medicinal Chemistry Knowledge Center at Sarafan ChEM-H is seeking a Research Associate to join our team exploring a wide variety of small molecule therapeutics. You will perform and support complex lab experiments working to support various research projects. Your work will focus primarily on the synthesis of small molecules for biochemical and biological evaluation. This work will contribute to several projects ongoing in the lab that are focused on developing novel therapeutics as part of Stanford's Innovative Medicines Accelerator. Are you capable, interested in performing essential functions and activities involved in defined research projects, and able to independently conduct and analyze experiments? Then help us to forge a new generation of small molecule therapeutics from bench to bedside. CORE DUTIES:
      Independently perform complex (lab and/or field) experiments and maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes; analyze and interpret research data resulting from original procedures and methods.Prepare weekly progress reports or written reports on all phases of the research project.Contribute to the preparation of papers for publication, especially in the experimental section. Present ongoing work and findings to colleagues at group meetings.Perform ongoing literature review to remain current with new procedures and related research; propose new research directions based on new advances discussed in literature.Work with health and safety department to ensure lab complies with regulations and all required trainings.Interpret and analyze results, often where few guidelines exist, and make modifications to existing procedures and protocols.Supervise (either formally or informally) staff or students as needed, including oversight and direction on techniques, as well as consultation on project work. Serve as a technical resource for other research staff.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    Education & Experience:
    Bachelor's degree in related scientific field and two years of relevant work experience; or master's degree in a related scientific field.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
      General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed.Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge of science principles to problem solve work.Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to accurately complete detailed work.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to work effectively in a team environment.Flexibility, eagerness to learn new analytical skills under supervision and apply those skills to accurately perform work as needed.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
      Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.Must have correctable vision to perform duties of the job.Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment.Position may require repetitive motion.* - Consistent with its obligations under the law, the University will provide reasonable accommodation to any employee with a disability who requires accommodation to perform the essential functions of the job.
    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    The expected pay range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000 per annum.Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
