    Positions with an "FTE" (full time equivalency) of are eligible for full-time medical, dental and vision benefits. Positions with an "FTE" of are eligible for part-time pro-rated medical, dental and vision benefits
Shift: 1st shift (7:00 am - 3:30 pm; Monday - Friday)


Summary:


This limited term position is designed to provide the basic training in Histology required for promotion to Histology Technician I.

Trainees will learn to handle, embed and cut tissues.

At or before the end of the 6 month training period, the trainee must demonstrate the careful handling of specimens required for responsible patient care and pass a basic skills test for cutting and embedding.

Successfully passing the test results in promotion to Histology Technician I (HT1).


Responsibilities:


  • Demonstrates proper care and handling of pathology specimens, which are unique and irretrievable specimens required for lifesaving diagnosis. Demonstrates a level of responsibility commensurate with critical patient care. 2. Recognizes different tissue types and the unique handling requirements for each. 3. Orients and embeds tissues properly for tissue block creation. 4. Properly uses microtomes for cutting to preserve tissues and create diagnostic slides. 5. Stains specimens with H&E (Hematoxylin and Eosin) stain and recognizes quality issues associated with the stain. 6. Performs daily maintenance and quality control checks for histology equipment. 7. Works proficiently with the laboratory information system used for lab testing and patient record searches.

Other information:
High school diploma and 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university.

These hours must include 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of chemistry and biology (must include credit hours in both).
