    New England Cancer Specialist is looking for a full-time Clinical Oncology Pharmacist. This position will work in both our Scarborough and Topsham offices. The Clinical Oncology Pharmacist role at New England Cancer Specialists is responsible for working closely with the Directors of Pharmacy Operations and Pharmacy Clinical Services with the goal of continuing to improve and expand the quality of pharmacy services offered for all New England Cancer Specialists clinic sites. A key area of responsibility will be to ensure the provision of safe, appropriate, timely, and cost-effective treatment to NECS patients in accordance with evidence-based literature, regulations governing pharmacy practice, and institutional policies and procedures.

    NECS is a private medical practice composed of 18 oncologists and hematologists serving the region from 5 different locations in Maine and New Hampshire.     Job Summary:

    This is a unique opportunity to practice clinical oncology pharmacy in a community oncology practice setting. New England Cancer Specialists is devoted to providing the lowest cost, yet highest quality care to its patients. The practice is active on a national level through its participation in advocacy and clinical excellence as a leading member in groups such as the Community Oncology Alliance, National Cancer Care Alliance, Northern New England Clinical Oncology Society, and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute Collaborative Network, among others.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Monitor patient treatment plans for safety and accuracy
    • Speak with and educate patients about medication related concerns whenever appropriate
    • Work with Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services on drug formulary selection and implementation
    • Participate in drug formulary management and assist with the safe implementation of new medications and treatment regimens for use within the practice.
    • Serve as a drug information resource for medication related inquiries from all practitioner disciplines
    • Work collaboratively with various groups within the practice
    • Participate in the management of infusion reactions in the treatment room and assist with strategies to safely administer the medication for future doses.
    • Serve as an active member on the Medication Safety Committee.
    • Work collaboratively with the High-Risk and Survivorship clinic to support pharmacologic interventions for this patient population.
    • Support the pharmacy technician team with clinical or operational information as needed
    • Perform semi-annual education for staff on a topic chosen by a specific group of practitioners (RNs, APPs, etc.)
    • Ensure that staff are in-serviced on newly approved medications to be used for the first time at a particular clinic location
    • Provide in-service medication education and practice communication in partnership with each clinic manager
    • Assist with the maintenance and updating of regimens/formulary within the EMR
    • Ensure team compliance with NECS policies and procedures
    • Participate in in-services, continuing education programs and conferences directly related to NECS contracting, vendors and clinical partners
    • Maintain open and effective communication with all physicians, employees and vendors
    • Participates in meetings as necessary, working collaboratively with all departments.
    • Perform various pharmaceutical duties as needed to support pharmacy
    • Assist in enforcing NECS' pharmaceutical representative policy
    • Other duties as assigned

    Education and/or Experience

    • BS Degree in Pharmacy required, PharmD degree preferred
    • Currently licensed/registered Pharmacist in the State of Maine

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • 5 or more years progressive pharmacy experience working in an oncology setting
    • Proven organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
    • Evidence of expertise and knowledge of pharmacy operations
    • Evidence of leadership in pharmacy practice
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with cross-functional leadership and team members
    • Proactive initiative to identify issues, recommend and implement solutions
    • Ability to handle multiple priorities and to assist staff in workload management and in times of crisis
    • High ethical standards with the ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion while performing duties
    • Willingness to learn, remain flexible and be a change agent
