Dietary Assistance: TrainingDietary assistants advise and educate patients with various metabolic disorders such as diabetes, obesity, gastrointestinal or kidney diseases. They primarily work in clinical and outpatient settings and are responsible for the dietary therapy of patients according to medical prescription.
Dietary assistance also organizes dietary catering in hospitals. The tasks of a dietary assistant are diverse: you plan and calculate nutrition therapy concepts and monitor the preparation of meals. An important role is also played by the integration and counseling of family members.
In addition, dietary assistance tries to influence the purchasing and eating behavior of patients through shopping training. In the food industry, such professionals are involved in the development of products and recipes.
The training to become a dietary assistant includes theoretical and practical sections. Theory and practice are linked early on in the training. In the first year of training, practical training takes place in a hospital kitchen. This is followed by an internship on a hospital ward. Finally, students gain experience in dietary and nutritional counseling.
