Bishop Amat Memorial High School seeks a full-time Learning Specialist to direct its Inclusion Program for the school year.Bishop Amat joins the archdiocesan Mission to welcome all of God's children to ensure our students, including those with disabilities, have access to a Catholic education.
Bishop Amat Memorial High School is a four-year co-educational Archdiocesan Catholic high school.The mission of the school is to form a faith-filled community and to provide a quality education that addresses the needs of a culturally and academically diverse student body.
The comprehensive instructional program flows from a college preparatory curriculum that empowers students to recognize their potential and to meet educational and life challenges in the future.
The school, working in partnership with parents and the community, promotes education in Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge by preparing students to embrace Gospel values, to respect themselves and others, to become life-long learners, and to contribute positively to the community.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Functions as the director of the Inclusion Program and serves as STEP Coordinator, preparing for and leading STEP meetings as a means of supporting students' academic success (See Chapter 14 of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Administrative Handbook).
- Oversees and collaborates with the Learning Resource Assistant to implement policies aimed at creating a safe, quiet, and collaborative space (Learning Resource Center) for students in the Inclusion Program.
- Facilitates communication of and support network for the needs of Inclusion students with parents, teachers, counselors, staff, administrators, including outside support personnel such as doctors, additional tutors, etc.
- Assists in test administration and/or proctoring school tests, psychoeducational tests, extended time final exams, entrance exam, and PSAT/SAT tests for students registered for College Board's SSD accommodations.
- Assists in the implementation of minor learning adjustments for students with specific learning challenges. Specifically, they serve as a liaison between student and teacher in specific educational needs e.g., distraction limited testing, review/study guides, test modifications, etc.
- Coordinates with the California Scholastic Federation moderator to procure peer tutoring for students in need.
- Handles special circumstance scheduling for Inclusion students, as well as making recommendations to the Counseling Dept. on students' course schedules.
- Represents the Inclusion Program on the Curriculum and Assessment Committee.
- Maintains and manages the Inclusion section of the Bishop Amat website; creates program public relations materials, materials for parent information, and teacher inservices.
- Serves as the preninth coordinator during the summer session, making course placement recommendations for the fall.
- Teaches one class: Study Skills
Requirements:
- BA/BS mandatory; CA Pupil Personnel Services Credential, MA Education/Counseling or similar MA/MS degree/credential preferred.
