- Conduct initial intake interviews with clients and make collateral contacts to obtain background data and social information.
- Facilitation of group and coordination of care within IDOC and with external programs.
- Administer screening/assessment and prepare reports within assigned deadlines.
- Coordinate service authorizations with IDOC Central Office SUD team and assist in policy and program development.
- Participate with community groups and other public agencies in developing program needs and problem-solving techniques.
- Good knowledge of drug & alcohol treatment course work. Typically gained by a minor in addiction studies, or graduate certificate.
- Experience to include performing client assessments and case management; developing and implementing treatment plans; and monitoring client behaviors. Typically gained by at least 3 credits with in the 12 core functions (screening/assessment or case management) or closely related field OR at least 6 month of full-time work experience in a behavioral health clinic/or substance use disorder program providing client with screening and assessment tools.
- Proficient in computer data entry, electronic mail, composing reports and letters, and storing and retrieving documents. Typically gained by familiarity with Office 365, Outlook, or other like programs.
- Willing to work non-traditional hours (evening hours up to 10 p.m. and/or weekends) in a correctional facility and/or probation and parole district office providing program facilitation and case management services to individuals under IDOC jurisdiction.
- Meet IDAPA guidance before beginning employment.
- Some knowledge of the criminal justice system. Typically gained by at least 6 college level credits in criminal justice or a closely related field OR at least 6 months of full-time work experience in a corrections or law enforcement setting involving daily interaction with clients or offenders to enforce security and safety procedures in a corrections or law enforcement setting (i.e. probation & parole officer, correctional officer, case manager, mental health or criminal justice professional) OR completion of a collegiate internship (at least 150 hours) in a criminal justice setting.

Typically gained by at least 3 credits with in the 12 core functions or closely related field OR at least 6 month of full-time work experience in a behavioral health clinic/or substance use disorder program providing client with screening and assessment tools.

IDOC is looking for candidates who want to make a positive impact Working as a Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation Specialist (DARS) within the Division of Probation and Parole.
DARS administer substance abuse screenings/assessments, provide professional rehabilitation consultation in an intensive programming environment, and facilitate groups.Work may require daily travel within a geographic area of the state and irregular work schedules including evenings and weekends.
