    Mechanical Reliability Engineer
    Edison, NJ
    6+ Month Contract
    Onsite Position/Hybrid/Remote? On-site


    Worksite location:
    Edison, NJ

    What are the shift hours? 7:00AM to 4:00 AM
    OSHA PPE? If yes, what PPE? Yes, Steel toe shoes and Nomex. Hard hat, gloves, glasses will be provided by the site


    Pay range:
    /hr, W 2 (Depending on experience/skill level)

    1. Must have experience in troubleshooting rotating equipment
    2. Must understand industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ANSI)
    3. Must be able to support both expense and capital projects


    Basic Function

    As a member of our dynamic team, you will provide the site engineering participation in the identification and resolution of mechanical related problems and define improvement opportunities that will positively impact quality, capacity and mechanical reliability.

    The position interacts with other technical groups on site (process engineering, maintenance), corporate technical networks and peers, and vendors/suppliers as needed to resolve problems and improve plant reliability and performance.

    During a typical day you will apply technical knowledge to analyze causes of long term reliability issues, execute expense and capital projects, provide general assistance trouble shooting day-to-day issues or provide technical training to less experienced engineers.



    Roles & Responsibilities


    • Develop and maintain systems to improve and sustain value in the areas of health, safety, environment, production rates, reliability, cost and quality.
    • Maintain strong safety and environmental compliance focus.
    • Monitor, troubleshoot and optimize operations units.
    • Execute recommendations to improve unit performance.
    • Balance day-to-day operations priorities with long term strategic objectives to ensure alignment with company goals.
    • Providing QA/QC requirements.
    • Optimizing preventive maintenance process.
    • Providing technical support for capital and expense projects.
    • Supporting major unit turnarounds and outages.
    • Participating in or leading Root Cause Failure Analysis.
    • Performing investigations.
    • Resolving maintenance/reliability issues and communicating improvements.
    • Optimizing the balance between minimizing maintenance costs and maximizing equipment performance.
    • Coach less experienced engineers, providing required technical training to maintenance and reliability personnel.

    Min. Qualifications



    • The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a minimum of 8 years relevant work experience in the refining or petrochemical industry.
    • Knowledge of maintaining and monitoring pumps, turbines, compressors, stationary equipment and applicable codes and standards is required.
    • Must be able to effectively evaluate equipment performance and trouble-shoot equipment & process problems through the use of critical analytical skills.
    • Predictive (PdM) and preventive Maintenance (PM) concepts
    • Basic understanding of Reliability data analysis and Reliability engineering concepts
    • Basic understanding of industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ANSI)
    • Ability to apply computer software tools (SAP and Meridium are a plus)

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with rotating equipment/machinery maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting is preferred.
    • Experience using process parameters (temperature, vibration, flow, pressure, etc.) to troubleshoot equipment issues is preferred.
    • Experience with developing new equipment specifications according to specific standards (API 610, ASME B73.1, etc.) is preferred, but not required.
    • Certification as a Cat II Vibration Analyst is preferred, but not required.
    • Experience with stationary equipment (piping, vessels, heat exchangers, etc.) maintenance and repair is preferred.
    • Experience with piping/support design and installation is preferred, but not required.
    • Experience with tank maintenance and repair (API 650 / API 653) is preferred, but not required.
