Essential Functions/ Job Competencies/ Physical RequirementsESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESThe intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job.

Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Performs technical duties in the maintenance, development, and operation of the geographic information systems.
Creates, maintains, and edits departmental databases, including the preparation of data dictionaries and documentation.

Prepares and executes queries of individual electronic databases to produce products that include but are not limited to maps, tables, plots, charts, and graphs.

Using the G.I.S.

(Geographic Information Systems) and other technologies, prepares a variety of analysis of electronic information, including the preparation of multi-layered and linked maps and tabular data; prepares graphic materials showing the results of these analysis and assists staff in interpreting the results.

Ensures the quality and accuracy of a variety of geographic information system data, including researching and revising maps and data from other data sources.

Operates a variety of geographic information system input and output devices, including scanners, printers, and plotters.
Must be familiar with field data collection and analysis including the use of the GPS (Global Positioning System) equipment.
Performs related graphical support as needed.
Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
Performs other related work as assigned.

Knowledge of basic understanding of principles and methodologies associated with G.I.S. (Geographic Information Systems) Technology.
Knowledge of basic database management principles and techniques using common software packages.

Knowledge of technologies used in recording and conducting analysis of land use, planning and geographic information, including cartographic/the basic symbols and terminology used in mapping.

Knowledge of digitizing and data manipulation procedures from G.I.S (Geographic Information Systems).
