    Description

    foundry10 is seeking a new full-time Research Coordinator to join our Research team and work under the direction of Dr. Travis Willingham Windleharth in the STEM Design-Based Research (STEM DBR) lab. The Research Coordinator will support a variety of research projects related to STEM learning designs in applied settings. A core area of work in the STEM DBR lab is STEM game-based learning, with periodic projects in informal learning spaces such as museums and community science programs. The Research Coordinator will also be a member of the foundry10 Creativity, Design, and Play Interest Area team.

    The Research Coordinator will support the Research team and STEM DBR Lab by working on every step of the research process (e.g., participant recruitment, data collection, data analysis, and writing/presenting) and have the opportunity to specialize in one or more areas to strengthen our research and Research team, such as the Institutional Review Board (IRB), open science, research sharing, or interfacing with community partners.

Candidates must live in Washington State and be able to work up to 2-4 days each week in foundry10?s Seattle office, which is located in the University District.     Qualifications

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Education, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Informatics, Human Centered Design and Engineering, or a related field
    • Minimum of 1 year of research experience within a university or professional research setting
    • Background, familiarity, or comfort with a STEM field or STEM learning (e.g. biology, computer science, chemistry, math, etc.)
    • Experience with data collection involving human subject participants (particularly with youth)
    • Experience with data management and basic statistical analysis
    • Familiarity with spreadsheets (e.g. Excel, Google Sheets) and statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS)
    • Good time management skills and the ability to work on several project timelines at once
    • Ability to manage information and research system details across a portfolio of projects
    • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

    Preferred Experience

    • Experience with game-based learning or game design
    • Experience and comfort working with youth in programmatic or research settings
    • Experience with qualitative research methods (e.g. qualitative coding)

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Work on research for STEM learning, especially from a design-based research perspective
    • Collaborate with other members of the Research team, Creativity, Design, and Play Interest Area team, program developers, and external partners to strategically plan and execute projects
    • Implement and assist with all stages of the research process, including:
      • Research design
      • Literature reviews
      • Writing IRBs
      • Recruitment: work with recruitment database, communication, and scheduling
      • Executing research interventions (program designs)
      • Data collection (observations, interviews, survey administration, etc.)
      • Data management (data entry, data cleaning)
      • Data analysis (including statistical analysis and qualitative coding)
      • Writing papers, reports, and creating graphics/charts
    • Assist in sharing back findings and actionable insights through presentations/publications of work at conferences, in journals, and with community partners
    • Shared responsibility for day-to-day administrative tasks for the Research team (e.g., Research team requests, updating project boards, budgeting, participant compensation, etc.)
    • This position requires candidates to work in-office and at research sites one or two times per week, and candidates must have the ability to periodically commute to research sites (e.g. schools).
    • This position may be asked or invited to participate in other in-person activities, but those will be communicated well in advance.
    • Develop relationships with external partners (community-based organizations, schools, etc.)
    • Conduct exploratory conversations, visits, and data collection efforts with partners who work with youth
    • Project execution of new research projects, and general project management and tracking
    • Meeting agenda development and facilitation
    • Help build the organization?s capacity around research through workshops and collaborative projects with colleagues on and off the Research and Creativity, Design, and Play teams

    This is an exempt position with a salary range of $70,000 to $80,000/year and reports to a Senior Researcher.

    Step 3: Zoom meeting with a Senior Researcher, if needed (30 mins)
