About the team and position


Reporting to the Associate Director, Total Rewards, the Manager, Leaves & Accommodations (L&A), plays a key role on Carvana's Total Rewards Team by leading a team of leaves and accommodations focused team members and their day-to-day operations.

You will grow and maintain an effective, consultative L&A process that delivers a smooth, friendly & informative experience for our team members, supports our leadership team in achieving dynamic and aggressive business goals, and ensures compliance with applicable regulations and policies.

This position has a hybrid work schedule with 3 days in our beautiful Tempe, AZ headquarters and 2 days remote.


What you'll be doing

  • Manage all aspects of the L&A process for team members nationwide, including ADA accommodations, paid/unpaid medical and family leaves, shortterm and longterm disability, parental, personal, and military leaves.
  • Oversee complex escalated employee issues and appeals; provide recommendations to business leaders and Legal.
  • Develop & deliver an effective & efficient workflow between the L&A team and the business focused on leader education, transparency, & support.
  • Deliver regular guidance & training to the L&A team.
  • Develop and implement streamlined leave platforms, processes and procedures to achieve optimal employee experience and timely L&A decisions and oversight.
  • Foster a focus on consultation with the business and transitioning employees back to work as soon as practicable.
  • Perform regular endtoend operational assessments and audits focused on effective monitoring & improvement of the process.
  • Provide ongoing plan management including evaluation of program performance and trends. Develop, generate and present reports to analyze disability, leave and accommodation trends. Identify trends in reasons for leave and propose strategies to reduce the need for leave or promote a more efficient transition back to work.
  • Propose revisions to internal documents, policies and communications as necessary to ensure company compliance.
  • Ensure vendors are meeting contractual service level requirements and performance guarantees.
  • People Operations (POPs) and Legal: provide guidance/recommendations on specific situations, implement process changes, develop & deliver training, ensure effective stakeholder notification & involvement.
  • Environmental Health & Safety (EHS): collaborate with Workers' Compensation team to ensure FMLA and other state/local leave entitlements are run concurrently with workers' compensation leaves.
  • IT/HR

Info Systems:
oversee vendor integrations and interfaces for accurate data recording and reporting. Work with our data analytics team to provide relevant, accurate data to leadership.

  • Payroll: ensure that the L&A team and Payroll team are effectively collaborating to deliver accurate pay and applicable deductions for employees on leave and statutory filings
  • Vendors: oversight of leave vendor and all related processes
  • Interpret and execute policies for departments/projects.
  • Recommend and implement new policies or modifications to existing policies.
  • Other duties/projects as assigned.

What you should know/have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • At least 5 years' experience in L&A management to include experience with:
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the interactive process (required).
  • Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act (USERRA), and multistate leave law.
Short Term Disability (STD) and Long Term Disability (LTD) plans

  • Parental leaves.
  • Workers' compensation and life benefits, as it relates to integrating with leave and disability.
  • Expert collaboration skills and ability/experience to build strong relationships with HR partners and business leaders and able to make recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Advanced level skill in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets (for example, using VLOOKUP function and creating pivot tables).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated problemsolving, organization, prioritization and detailorientation
