- Develop novel in-situ and ex-situ electron microscopy techniques to advance the science of materials design and discovery.
- Operate, maintain in-house TEM capabilities, and train, supervise, and work directly with instrument users.
- Lead manuscript and support proposal development efforts.
- Present research findings at technical conferences and project review meetings. Qualifications
- BS/BA and 2 years of relevant experience -OR-
- MS/MA -OR-
- PhD
- Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven background in operation and maintenance of transmission electron
microscopes. - Experience in the use of multiple techniques such as Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy, 4D STEM and advanced in-situ holders for analyzing materials in gas, liquid, Cryo, electrochemical or high temperature stimuli.
- Experience in operation and maintenance high vacuum systems is highly desired.
- Experience with participating and leading the development of research proposals.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities
Join our Materials Sciences team as a Materials Scientist , and be part of a diverse, multi-disciplinary team dedicated to conducting both experimental and computational research focused on materials design at PNNL. Our research aims to comprehend the structure-property relationship of organic, inorganic, and hybrid materials using state-of-the-art electron microscopy techniques. Your role will involve collaboration on high-impact, hypothesis-driven projects, integrating and advancing in-situ and ex-situ electron microscopic techniques. These efforts are focused towards building the fundamental understanding of the atomic scale structural and chemical behaviors of various materials- ranging from batteries and electronics to quantum materials. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to various programs focused on enhancing electron microscopy capabilities, which will enable us to understand complex materials in operando environments more effectively. The research will necessitate close collaboration with distinguished materials and computational scientists.
