Summary


The Accessibility Official manages a team of accessibility administrators and specialists that ensures MTA C&Ds responsibility for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act on the Department Level.

The expected result of the job is that the position ensures that personnel the Accessibility Official supervises and assigned to projects are reviewed and approved at the definition, design, construction, and acceptance steps of a project for Accessibility.


Responsibilities:


Can complete all portions of Accessibility, including reviewing and approving plans for Accessibility, performing inspections, and fully understanding the administrative requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Oversee the deployment of staff and consultants to provide Accessibility services to assigned projects. Utilize third-party services to minimize the review and inspection process.

Be organized to provide the status of Accessibility activities through metric-based deliverables effectively.

Able to effectively manage assigned staff, including setting projects based on the needs of the Office.

Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.

Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of related experience.


Must have five (5) years in a managerial or supervisory role and/or project manager role in a large, multi-faceted organization.

Licensed Professional Engineer or Registered Architect desirable.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience with major construction projects with highly complex systems preferred.

Must be an ICC Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner or equivalent within 18 months of hire.

Demonstrated ability to work in a high-profile, high-pressure environment effectively.

Must have focus and ability to deliver results, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.

Must possess excellent team-building, listening, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.


Proficient computer skills (i.e., Windows environment, Microsoft Office, etc.) and strong business administrative skills (i.e., presentations, report and letter writing, time management, etc.).

Other Information


Pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the Commission).
