Position Summary/Purpose of Position:


  • Under general supervision, manages and provides technical support of teaching and departmental research equipment which varies in complexity. Requires ingenuity and creative thinking in devising new way of accomplishing objectives and in adapting existing equipment and current techniques. Responsible for the management of and technical services of the scientific equipment for our instructional labs and maintenance of water purification system.

Minimum Qualifications:


Education:


  • Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education.

Experience:


  • 2 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Ability to operate standard tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex drawings, charts and diagrams in operational manuals of equipment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others both orally and in writing, especially with individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Have an aptitude to problem solve, make decisions and know when to involve others to help problem solve.
  • Demonstrated commitments, experience and understanding for diversity, equity and inclusion.

Preferences:


Preferences:


  • Prior experience in an academic setting a plus.
  • Prior experience working to support research laboratories in academia.
  • Valid Drivers license.

    Physical Demands
  • Working on equipment may require carrying, cleaning, climbing, crawling and kneeling around it. Lifting up to 75 pounds with materials handling equipment. Repairs ay also require pulling, pushing, squatting, stooping, bending and twisting. Work will require walking between 3 building that currently house department activities.
