Summary


The Packaging Development Technician plays a critical role in supporting the R&D team in the design, testing, and optimization of packaging solutions for NPD projects for dietary supplements and nutritional products.

This position involves hands-on work, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and adherence to quality and regulatory standards.


Responsibilities

  • Packaging Testing: Conduct testing and evaluation of packaging materials and components to ensure they meet quality and performance standards. This includes assessing factors like durability, compatibility, and sealing integrity.
  • Prototyping: Assist in the development of packaging prototypes and mockups. Collaborate with Packaging Engineers to create and refine packaging designs.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records and documentation related to packaging testing and development activities. Prepare reports summarizing findings and test results. Ensure accuracy and completion of packaging information in the database for new products.
  • Quality Control: Perform quality control checks on finished packaging materials and products to ensure they meet established specifications.
  • Material Sourcing: Collaborate with suppliers to source and evaluate packaging materials, including containers, labels, closures, and other components.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that packaging materials and designs comply with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain laboratory and testing equipment used in packaging development and quality control.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with crossfunctional teams, including Packaging Engineers, R&D, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing, to support packaging development initiatives.
  • Problem Solving: Assist in troubleshooting packagingrelated issues and contribute to the resolution of problems as they arise.
  • Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and good laboratory practices (GLP) to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.

Minimum Qualifications

_Knowledge_

Education:


  • Associate degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., packaging technology, materials science, engineering, or related discipline). Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.

_Experience_- 2+ years of experience working in an R&D or product development laboratory, preferably in the pharmaceutical, dietary supplement, or food industry.

  • Previous experience in a packaging development or quality control role, preferably in the pharmaceutical or dietary supplements industry.
  • Familiarity with packaging materials and components commonly used in the industry.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of packaging regulations, such as FDA and ISO standards.
  • Experience with packaging design software or CAD programs.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and quality control tools.

_Work Environment_
The office is clean, orderly, properly lighted, and ventilated. Noise levels are considered low to moderate. Field conditions vary.

Exposed to various raw materials, including allergens (i.e. milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nut, peanuts, wheat, soy).


_Physical Demands_


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, crawl, sit, talk, move about, hear and speak.

May be required to work in restricted spaces and/or under difficult lighting and access conditions.


The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-50 pounds and be able to use appropriate support equipment to lift and move greater amounts.

Must be able to stand for approximately 8 hours.

Must be able to work independently, in a team environment, and drive projects to solutions.
