General Statement of Duties:


Performs various administrative and supportive tasks and services essential to the overall operations of the Human Resources Department; employee-oriented, high-performance culture emphasizing accountability, compassion, respect, productivity and development; performs directly related work as required.


Examples of Essential Work:


  • Performs confidential administrative duties within the Human Resources Department;
  • Performs data entry within the Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS);
  • Maintains employee records to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations;
  • Partners with other Human Resources staff to ensure cross training in key areas (administrative, payroll, compensation, benefits, recruitment, leave administration and related) for coverage during peak activity and/or absences;
  • Assists with new hire and termination paperwork and calculations, as well as pay changes, benefits changes, and some leave calculations;
  • Assist with unemployment, garnishments and verification of employment requests;
  • Composes correspondence, memos and reports in support of personnel actions within the city;
  • Responds to requests for information related to employee records and other releasable public information adhering to compliance and regulations;
  • Assist with the processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable and/or payroll as necessary;
  • Assists with the yearly departmental budget monitoring and preparation;
  • Prepares correspondence, reports, lists and other documents as instructed and requested by designated office personnel;
  • Assists with new hire medicals and conducts followups with Security Manager regarding background checks;
  • Assists with time/service awards, celebrations and the maintenance of talent management information within the HRIS;
  • Assists with projects, events, schedule coordination/appointments, and other duties as assigned;
  • Copies, scans, mails and distributes a variety of written materials as requested by designated office personnel;
  • Gathers, assembles, updates, distributes and/or files a variety of information, forms, records and data as requested using traditional filing systems or databases as necessary;
  • Listens to and directs comments and complaints from the public relating to Department operations and takes appropriate action to resolve and refer such complaints;
  • Requisitions supplies and materials for the department as requested; and more.....

Acceptable Experience and Training:


  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Business, Public Administration, Human Resources or a closely related field; and,
  • Considerable experience in general office operations, human resources; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Required Special Qualifications:


  • Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM)CP Certification or Human Resources Certification (preferred)
