Are you looking for a job that provides flexibility in an environment committed to social justice? First Church UCC Phoenix is seeking a Part-Time, Contract, Maintenance Technician/Custodian who can maintain the property and do small fix-it up projects.
We are looking for a responsible custodian to maintain and protect the external and internal appearance of our facilities. Each Sunday, the custodian agrees to be on-site from 7am to 1pm for a minimum of five (5) hours.

The additional three (3) hours weekly can be completed at contractor's scheduling discretion in partnership with active list of repairs, punch list provided by the church / supervisor.


The following types of maintenance and custodial tasks will be performed:

  • Minor repairs to building and equipment; plumbing, electrical, light construction, like fixing a door lock or opening mechanism
  • Cleaning and maintaining building facilities and bathrooms
  • Room setups for scheduled meetings
  • Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum floors using cleaning solutions, tools, and equipment
  • Clean, dust or polish furniture, walls, ceilings, windows, and building fixtures
  • Clean walkways, parking lots, and steps
  • Gather and empty trash
  • Maintain church grounds, e.g. mowing, sweeping, etc., light landscaping
  • Energy management by adjusting lighting, thermostats, temperature control devices, etc. according to occupancy & use
  • Communicate with supervisor when supplies are needed for daily operation, repairs and maintenance
  • Assist in building security, locking, and unlocking doors & gates, setting alarms
  • Report major damages and oversee repairs with third parties who may need to assist with larger facility issues

Minimum Qualifications:


  • 2 years relevant work experience as a custodian or facilities technician.

Knowledge and Abilities to Perform Essential Functions:

  • General handyman skills.
  • Janitorial and cleaning skills.
  • Responsiveness to weekly projects on Sundays and in a timely manner during the week.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Carefulness and thoroughness in working, cleaning, and tidying the premises, as well as preventing vandalism or unauthorized facility access.

Normal Hours of Work:


Normal work week is no more than 8 hours per week with Sunday's bring the primary workday and one other day during the week can be utilized in cooperation with church staff.

Education:

High school or AA degree. (preferred)


Successful completion of background check required.
