Duties and Responsibilities:


Essential Job Functions:

Participates in activities of the municipal wastewater plant laboratory; accurately and precisely performs chemical and bacteriological analysis of samples; prepares cultures and makes microscopic examinations; prepares chemical solutions; reads, interprets, records, and reports on results of investigations.

Working Conditions:


Working Conditions:

Position is at a wastewater treatment plant laboratory and involves working with wastewater in various stages of treatment. May be exposed to noise, dust, unpleasant odors, and conditions inherent in a wet chemistry lab.

Works 8: 00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and scheduled weekends and holidays.


Minimum Essential Qualifications:


Knowledge:
Considerable knowledge of methods and techniques used in conducting chemical and bacteriological test and analysis. Tests include BOD, CBOD, TSS/VSS, Ammonia Nitrogen, Alkalinity, percent solids/moisture, pH, Dissolved Oxygen, temperatures, COD, TKN and Fecal Coliforms.


Skills/Abilities:

Must be able to conduct chemical and bacteriological lab test and analysis unassisted and work with limited supervision and instruction.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, ability to record data, maintain records and compile reports. Knowledge of PC, printer, computer spreadsheets and word processor programs.


Physical Requirements:

Constantly sees, hears, stands, uses physical dexterity, use of measuring equipment; frequently bends, walks, cleans, and carries objects weighing up to 50 lbs.


Education/Experience:
Graduation from high school supplemented by college course work in Biology and Chemistry. Minimum of one year experience in a wet-chemistry laboratory performing wastewater analysis preferred.
