OVERVIEW:
We're looking for an experienced, licensed medical assistant to join our quickly-growing allergy practice to help us with a diverse number of tasks, including, but not limited to: performing allergy and asthma testing, administering injections, educating patients, and creating allergy serums and oral desensitization vials for our food allergy program.
This position reports into the Nursing Supervisor but will work closely with the team consisting of physicians, NPs, nurses, other LVNs and MAs.
JOB DUTIES:
- Educates patients and families on allergy immunotherapy management.
- Greets patients and prepares syringes for injection administration using aseptic technique.
- Provides general care to patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments, specifically allergy/immunotherapy injections.
- Maintains immunotherapy room with necessary supplies and materials.
- Observes, records and reports patients' vitals and reactions to treatments.
- Assesses patient needs and suggests solutions to patient care problems.
- Maintains accurate patient records.
- Assures patient stays for required observation time after injection(s).
- Reacts appropriately in patient reaction situations; informs physician and/or other clinical staff as necessary to mitigate adverse reactions.
- Knowledgeable in allergy treatment and management, such as allergy desensitization therapy.
- Educated in the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis and responds accordingly.
- Ensures cleanliness. Keeps a clean and tidy shot room frequently between injection appointments.
- Calibrates PFT sensors as per manufacturer recommendations.
- Escorts patients to a treatment room and prepares them for the doctor's visit.
- Assist the LVN or RN with skin testing and other procedures as directed.
- Performs Epinephrine teaching, completes asthma care plans and discharge summaries.
- Completes documentation in EHR. (Vital Signs, Patient Clipboard, Testing Results, etc)
- Administers any allergy immunotherapy or respiratory medications requested by the doctor.
- Limited submission of Prior Authorizations (PAs) when directed by supervisors.
- Provides the general tasks of an immunotherapy nurse administering immunotherapy injections per office protocols.
- Performs allergy skin prick testing, patch testing, and breathing tests as required during times of high demand.
- Keeps clinical area and exam rooms organized and stocked with supplies.
- Checks refrigerator temperatures daily and logs on charts.
- Completes all tasks requested of Supervisors, MDs, or NPs.
- Performs equipment sterilization of office autoclave per SOP guidelines.
- Uses aseptic technique when drawing up medications for allergy immunotherapy.
- Maintains and follows HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Responsible for following OSHA regulations.
REQUIREMENTS & PREFERENCES:
- Licensed MA in the state of California
- CPR certification required (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong organizational and communication skills required; able to work in a team environment
- Ability to work with other members of the health care team.
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Electronic health records experience preferred
- Skilled in Pulmonary function testing, FeNO testing, and peak flow monitoring
- Knowledgeable with patient education regarding medications and environmental controls
- Clinical experience in allergy preferred, but not required
Pay:
$ $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
