Contracts & Special Projects:

The Contracts & Special Projects Division within the ADEDA Department performs the management and periodic renegotiation of operating contracts with other railroads; acts as a resource within the agency regarding contractual rights and responsibilities; and manages special projects of agency significance including employee engagement-related functions.


Reporting to the Senior Project Manager-DEDA, the Project Manager leads and supports teams in the completion of a wide range of administrative projects ensuring assignments are delivered on time and within scope and budget.


The primary duties include:

Assist with management of projects; including conducting research to assess needs, options, and alternatives; defining project scope, objectives, and budgets; developing plans and schedules; and establishing milestones to monitor project performance.

Maintain project files; track progress, milestone, and performance goals; and confer with team members and stakeholders in identifying risks, resolving issues, and keeping projects on schedule to achieve goals and objectives.

Attend project meetings, conduct field inspections to verify completed action items, and assess and update project status. Develop and maintain relationships both within and outside the organization to facilitate project coordination. Prepare reports apprising senior leadership of project status. Promote safe work practices and maintain and foster a safe work environment. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.


Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree OR in lieu of specified degree, any combination of education and experience may be substituted for the required degree that equals four years in project management.
  • In addition to #1 above, must have three years of project management/coordination experience preferably in the railroad or transit industry.
  • Good knowledge of project planning principles.
  • Good knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and software.
  • Good knowledge of budget, time, and team management.
  • Good organizational, analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with ability to edit and present generic and technical information to varied audiences in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office 365 to create spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and dashboards.
  • Proficient using Project Management software to track and report on projects.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in identifying alternatives to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with managers, supervisors, employees, and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support in assigned projects/tasks.
  • Ability to work in a team or independently to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks with a sense of urgency, efficiency, and attention to detail.
  • Must be willing to travel within Metra's 6county region.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours in the early morning, late afternoon, evenings, or weekends.

Preferred:

  • Experience in the railroad or transit industry.
