    Job Description

    Purpose:

    With higher responsibilities than Senior Addiction Counselor Level I, provides responsible, quality clinical treatment and supervision to chemically-addicted patients, including more complex cases, within the guidelines of regulatory agencies and to provide effective supervision to Addiction Counselors Level II and Peer Counselors to assist administration in a leadership role in the development and improvement of the delivery of quality treatment services to patients and in responding to mandates of regulatory agencies.

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

    The Senior Addiction Counselor Level II is charged with and responsible for:
    Performs all duties under Senior Addiction Counselor Level I in addition to some or all of the following:
    1. Performs intake assessments, screens patients and their families for the appropriate admission level of treatment. May make decisions regarding frequency and intensity of treatment during intake and assessment process.
    2. Supervises and provides clinical and treatment direction to subordinate staff.
    3. Participates in interdisciplinary training, staff in-services and acts as preceptor for students, interns and those meeting field placement requirements.
    4. Reviews and co-signs clinical documentation, including chart notes, treatment plans and treatment plan reviews and discharge summaries.
    5. Conducts and supervises subordinates in group therapy, relapse prevention, cue extinction and education groups for patients and their families.
    6. Provides input for development of policies and procedures of the program.
    7. Facilitates team meetings in absence of program director.
    8. Assumes team leadership role as assigned.
    9. Trains and conducts overdose prevention training and distributes naloxone rescue kits.
    10. Represents the agency in appropriate community education and outreach activities.
    11. Other tasks as determined by department need and the Director of Mental Health Services.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Any individual working in a NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS)-Certified Treatment Program or newly-hired into the System in the title of Addiction Program Administrator in a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting must have proof of completion of OASAS "Supporting Recovery with Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT)" training.
    For Assignment to Level II
    1. Valid Advanced Counselor CASAC or Other QHP as defined in Section U) of the OASAS Treatment Services: General Provisions, Title 14 NYCRR Part 800 ), including completion of the NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) 30-hour Clinical Foundations I & II training.

    Department Preferences

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    • Knowledge of current best practices in SUD/Addiction Treatment approaches.

    • Strong verbal/written communication and customer ICARE values.

    • Individual and group counseling; i.e., motivational counseling or CBT counseling approaches.

    • Ability to establish successful interpersonal relationship with patients and coworkers.

    • Demonstrate commitment to continued professional development.
