    Description

    As an Optical Engineer, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative consumer products. You will work closely with an internal interdisciplinary team and outside partners to drive key aspects of product definition, execution, and test. You must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment.

    Key job responsibilities

    In this role, you will:

    Work with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to develop high level system architectures, and define subsystem and component level requirements.

    Develop, design, model, fabricate, and test optical components, diffractive elements, and imaging systems.

    Collaborate with component and product engineering teams to provide rapid prototyping and characterization of components and systems.

    Using a combination of modeling and laboratory data collection, validate the capability of proposed optical architectures across variations in design and manufacturing methods, and where possible drive performance advances.

    Work with external vendors, suppliers, and contract manufactures to broaden and optimize design and manufacturing space.

    Basic Qualifications

    BS degree in Optical Engineering, Optical Sciences, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related field

    2+ years relevant work experience

    Experience in optical design using one or more standard optical design software

    Hands-on experience in laboratory work

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Preferred Qualifications

    Advanced degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related field

    Experience working with, characterizing and testing photopolymer materials

    Experience with design and fabrication of Volume Bragg Grating

    Experience with optical metrology tools material characterization tools such as interferometers, spectrometers, ellipsometer, and other standard image quality testing tools

    Experience with semi-conductor fabrication and lithography process

    Experience working in a clean room environment

    Experience working, communicating, and collaborating in a cross-functional team environment

    Self-motivated and self-directed individual, with little supervision necessary

    Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $93,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
