Poverty and Equity Global Practice and SAR Region
The Poverty and Equity Global Practice delivers the following to our clients in support of these critical areas:

  • Advice and knowledge to help better understand the relationship between growth, poverty, and inequality.
  • Diagnostics to help identify critical policies and multisectoral solutions that effectively reduce poverty and benefit the less welloff, helping to shape World Bank Group advisory, financing, and convening services.
  • Monitoring and evaluating policies and programs to enhance the poverty impact of interventions and inform midstream correction.
  • Support for nationally owned, transparent systems and methodologies for tracking poverty and other welfare outcomes.
  • Capacitybuilding in countries and within the WBG to analyze distributional impacts of policies and programs and monitor welfare.
  • Innovative data collection and measurement methods that can help fill crucial data gaps.
  • Data portals and analytical approaches to consistently support the analysis of poverty, distribution, and micromacro links across countries.
The South Asia Poverty Unit (ESAPV) covers eight countries with many challenges and opportunities.

They are at different stages of economic development, but all share the common goal of eliminating extreme poverty and reducing inequality.

The SAR regional data and stats team is expanding its work to include poverty and inequality nowcasts and forecasts that help to understand the impact of economic, climate, and other shocks faced by countries in the region, providing a narrative up to today and for coming years.

The result of this work will be used in the Macro and Poverty Outlooks, SAR regional data portal Sardatalab, and analytical pieces.

The poverty nowcasting and forecasting will be essential to the bank's cross-country and regional work and eventually could be expanded for global comparative analysis.

It is an important input into the Bank's efforts to monitor and analyze constraints to achieving the SDGs.

The Data and Statistic team of ESAPV is looking for an Extended Term Consultant at level EC1, based in Washington DC.

The duration of the appointment is for 12 months with possibility of extension up to the maximum of 3 years.

The position reports to Practice Manager for ESAPV and under supervision of a Senior Economist and Data Scientist in Washington DC.

The assignment expects to start in May/June 2024.

  • Manage corporate products related to harmonizing household surveys, updating country scorecards, and maintaining and updating global databases.
