Dorill Initiative (Dorill), founded in 2018, is committed to helping at-promise youth tap into their limitless potential and creative power to galvanize communities holistically and ignite social change.

In Dorill Arts Programs, we utilize healing-centered instruction and restorative justice practices to coach our young citizen artists to tell their authentic stories through high-caliber artistic training, academic + self-esteem coaching, civic action and community engagement workshops.

Dorill has served over 250 families so far across our programs. We have an 11 person staff, 7 artistic coaches, and 13 board members.

Position Summary:


As the driving force behind communication efforts, the Communications Director is responsible for shaping and implementing strategy and providing executive leadership regarding messaging and outreach.

This individual will be responsible for developing and executing innovative communications plans that effectively convey Dorill's vision, mission, and values to a diverse audience, including young citizen artists, parents, donors, partners, and the broader community.


Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Communications Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that includes media relations, social media, website content, newsletters, and annual reports to support the organization's goals, increase visibility, and engage with our community.

Brand Management and Storytelling: Elevate and maintain the organization's brand identity across all platforms, ensuring consistent messaging and visual imagery. Craft compelling narratives that highlight the impact of our programs, showcase the success stories of our participants, and inspire action and support from our audience.

Media Relations and Publicity: Serve as the primary media contact, developing strong relationships with media outlets and ensuring positive media coverage. Write and distribute press releases, pitch stories to journalists, and prepare spokespeople for interviews.

Digital Media and Content Creation: Oversee the organization's digital presence, including the website and social media channels. Create engaging, high-quality content that resonates with our audience and drives engagement. Monitor digital analytics to inform strategies and improve performance.

Internal Communications: Foster a cohesive internal culture by ensuring effective communication flows within the organization. Develop internal communications materials and channels that keep staff informed, engaged, and aligned with the organization's goals.

Community Engagement: Work closely with the programming team to support community outreach and engagement efforts. Develop communications materials and strategies that promote participation in our programs and events.


Position Qualifications and Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree
    and/or 24 years work experience in relevant fields (e.g., nonprofit management, business administration, arts education, etc.)
  • Exceptional interpersonal & intrapersonal skills and commitment to representing Dorill's mission, vision, and values with enthusiasm, warmth and professionalism
  • Excellent organizational, critical and problem solving skills
  • Strategic thinker with ability to thrive in a fastpaced, doityourself, startup environment
  • Works well alone as well as under direct supervision
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead with grace, humor and accountability for self and others
  • A willingness to multitask and meet pertinent deadlines
  • Advanced Google Workspace skills
