Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaching reading, English, social studies, science, math and computer skills to individuals who are functioning below the 12th grade level to prepare for the official GED Exam;
- Creating and developing curriculum, lesson plans and teaching materials;
- Integrating computeraided instruction into lessons as appropriate;
- Monitoring and assessing students' progress on a regular basis.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree
- A minimum of 12 months teaching experience preferred;
- Flexibility in work hours;
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds;
- Ability to pay close attention to detail as well as the possession of good judgment and a strong work ethic;
- Strong communication skills;
- All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment;
- Participating in department, division, and general adjunct faculty meetings;
- Participating in professional development as appropriate to the position;
- Teaching reading, English, social studies, science, math and computer skills;
- Creating and developing curriculum, lesson plans and teaching materials;
- Monitoring and assessing students' progress on a regular basis;
- Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds.
It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
