York Street Project seeks a full-time,
Maintenance Worker responsible for the overall cleanliness and repair of common areas within and outside all York Street Project-related facilities.

This is a full-time onsite position located in Jersey City, NJ.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Troubleshoot reported problems with mechanical systems and machinery and contact appropriate contractors for repair.
  • Responsible for executing the cleaning and repair schedule in consultation with the Director.
  • Authorized to purchase items needed for repair work and to order, stock, and monitor the use of all cleaning and building supplies.
  • Authorized to supervise temporary maintenance help.
  • Sweep, mop, and burnish floors throughout the facilities.
  • Keep loading dock organized and clean.
  • General clean bedrooms once they are vacated.
  • Report and repair any damaged material or fixtures as they occur.
  • Keep all maintenance storage closets and workspaces clean and organized.
  • Keep boiler and mechanical spaces broom clean.
  • Put garbage and recyclables out on appropriate nights.
  • Keep the steps, sidewalks, and basement area ways swept and free of papers and debris.
  • Work with other maintenance personnel in keeping the parking lot and storm drains clean.
  • Work with other maintenance personnel in snow removal.
  • Receive, review, and execute all work orders.
  • Purchase items needed for repair work.
  • Order, stock, and monitor the use of all cleaning and building supplies.
  • Annually discuss the cleaning and repair schedule with the Director and execute the schedule.
  • Supervise any temporary maintenance help.

Minimum Requirements:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Some experience in maintenance or a related field be preferred
  • Basic knowledge of tools and equipment used in maintenance work
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual labor
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
  • Valid driver's license
  • Have a basic knowledge of all mechanical systems in the Home. Know how to shut down systems.
  • Have a working knowledge of the Fire Detection and Suppression System. Know how to read the panel, isolate problems, and contain water flow.

Pay:
$ $20.00 per hour
