Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
The Charge Nurse role involves supervising and supporting a nursing staff alongside providing patient care. This position entails maintaining high standards of patient care, evaluating fellow nurses, and serving as an educational resource.


Key Responsibilities:
  • The Charge Nurse must be an experienced registered nurse showcasing leadership, management, and communication skills. Responsibilities include overseeing, supervising, and assisting the nursing staff, offering administrative support, and delivering patient care.
  • Duties consist of coordinating patient admissions, discharges, and overall patient flow, assigning nurses and support staff, and remaining flexible to prioritize and adapt during emergencies.
  • The Charge Nurse guides in providing care to new or special needs patients, answers queries on operating room procedures, collaborates with nurses and patients to develop personalized care plans, conducts training sessions for new staff, and organizes needs assessments.

Administrative Duties and Responsibilities
  • In addition to managerial tasks, Charge Nurses handle administrative responsibilities such as scheduling, inventory management, and updating staff on protocol changes. Some may also be involved in budget planning for the nursing team.

Nursing Duties and Responsibilities
  • While primarily managerial and administrative in nature, Charge Nurses also engage in patient care activities, the extent depending on the schedule and case complexity.

  • Conduct supervision sessions and Appraisals for Staff Nurses
  • Foster positive relationships within the nursing team, encourage input for service enhancements, maintain accurate written records, and communicate changes effectively
  • Assume named nurse/link nurse responsibilities, report any issues, challenge and guide for improvement in practice
  • Resolve team issues, involve HR for support if needed, ensure staff compliance with policies and regulations, and uphold regulatory requirements
  • Attend internal staff meetings, maintain good relations with regulatory bodies and relevant organizations

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
