Duties and Responsibilities
Performs a widely varied complex professional engineering work for construction, alteration, maintenance and energy management of the John A. Burns School of Medicine's (JABSOM) Kaka'ako facility.
Performs investigations and feasibility studies and provides technical consultation and budget estimates in response to requests for alteration, new construction, and energy management.
Performs applicable load calculations and applies technical design skills including drafting, to create working drawings and specifications for the Kaka'ako facility.
Performs engineering service in the implementation of energy conservation measures.Performs energy audits of building systems and operations and provides technical assistance in evaluating energy conservation measures.
Review engineering studies and design proposals of consulting engineers to ensure compliance with university standards.
Serves as a spokesman, interpreter, and dispatcher of information among consultants, contractors, and the university community.
Reviews system designs, specifications, and material submittals of consultants and contractors to ensure compliance with university standards.
Provides technical assistance to trades personnel and the university for troubleshooting work, minor renovation projects and preventive maintenance program development.
Performs periodic on-site inspection of mechanical and related work to insure conformance to the design and proper workmanship.May supervise or review the work of other professional, technical personnel and/or student assistants.

Education and Professional Work Experience
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in engineering with major coursework in mechanical, electrical, civil engineering or related field and four (4) years experience of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for professional engineering of which two (2) years is as a registered engineer; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of mechanical, electrical, civil or related engineering as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with professional engineering.
Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.

Qualifications
Registration as a professional engineer in the State of Hawaii.
Knowledge and application of the basic physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences to the solution of theoretical or practical engineering problems
Thorough and extensive knowledge of federal building codes; city/state codes; regulations, policies, laws, ordinances, and general engineering standards.
Understanding of commercial, industrial construction methods, techniques, and practices.
Ability to define, design, plan, organize and manage complex projects containing many problems variables.
Ability to conceptualize and relate the program to overall objectives and policies.
Ability to prepare comprehensive and technical engineering reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective & cooperative relationships with others, deal tactfully with the public and other officials.
Desirable Qualifications
Four (4) years experience with computer aided design, building information modeling, scheduling, and project management systems.
