The Chief Engineer is responsible for development and daily operations of projects related to the MACH-ADE project and related projects at the MCNAIR Center.
The Chief Engineer reports to the Project Director (Principal Investigator) and works with co-principal investigators, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students to support the entire scope of research activities in this and related laboratory spaces.
The scope of activities includes design and development of advanced manufacturing and related scientific components and systems including cross-disciplinary supporting systems such as machinery systems, modeling and simulation, hardware in the simulation loop, real time data acquisition, and control of systems.
MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field. Experience operating advanced manufacturing equipment in a relevant environment. Experience with project management. Experience with advanced composites manufacturing.Understanding of advanced manufacturing equipment, data acquisition and computing, use of simulation models for designing and operating equipment. Data acquisition and controls. Understanding the safety implications of equipment usage.
Excellent analytical skills, and ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects, to organize and prioritize tasks, make critical decisions, and to operate efficiently in a research environment with rapidly evolving and sometimes-competing needs.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken forms, using language appropriate to the technical domain.
Proficient with general computing skills, and use of MS Office software including MS Project.Positions are advertised for a minimum of five (5) business days on our job website.
