What Does a Week in the Life of the Project Manager Look Like?

  • Establish the project controls related to scheduling and commercial implications defined in the awarded contract and companies proposed scope of work.
  • Works closely with other department heads to ensure the success of a given project and to establish and understand the duration needed to execute their scope of the project and reflecting their durations in the overall project schedule.
  • Support and ensure compliance with all OSHA and HSE policies throughout the companies.
  • Builds a relationship with the client by keeping them up to date with the progress of the project.
  • Works with Project Controls group to define schedule and maintain its accuracy throughout the project.
  • Manages the engineering efforts and schedules meetings between the client and engineering groups to ensure that all design requirements are being executed according to the requirements within the contract.
  • Reviews requisitioned materials to select suppliers which will meet or exceed the project's costs and delivery requirements.
  • Reviews all documentation generated on the project prior to release to the clients for approval or into production for fabrication.
  • Manages change order costing efforts between the company and the client.
  • Provides direction to the Project Coordinators in support of the project; works with the Project Administrator to ensure that documents are being maintained throughout the project.

Required Education and Experience:


  • May require a bachelor's degree and two to four years of experience in the field or in a related area or five plus years of experience in scheduling, materials or engineering with exposure to the project management process.
  • Must demonstrate exceptional negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills in order to interact with suppliers, clients and coworkers in a team environment.
  • Strong planning and execution abilities
