Plus you get 16 hours of personal time per calendar year (prorated based on your start date, resets every Jan.1). We also have Bereavement, Longevity, Fitness, and maternity/paternity leave.

    Position Summary:

    Under supervision of Clinical Services Manager, responsible for overall implementation of Behavioral Health School Based Consulting program. Oversee daily operations of School Based Consulting program including management of all funding sources. Provide resources, safety and advocacy to ensure physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well-being of tribal children and students. All education staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws. This is a grant funded position.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Support classroom teachers, behavioral health specialists, administrators, school psychologists and social workers.
    • Identify students with unmet mental health needs and facilitate entry into behavioral health as needed.
    • Serve as a consultant to local districts in developing programs to serve students and benefit staff.
    • Communicate, consult, and partner with parents, staff and other agencies, and other community stakeholders.
    • Provide or coordinate culturally appropriate services as requested by student or family.
    • Participate in cultural and community events and activities on a regular basis.
    • Ensure project monitoring and evaluation systems are in place to collect information and consolidate data to demonstrate impact and inform ongoing program design.
    • Track and report data for required grant reports; write maintain, update and submit grants.
    • Provide support to tribal and public school staff and facilities of children with Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED) or other emotional and mental impairments.
    • Assess student readiness, need for change in services, or placement when appropriate.
    • Conduct assessment and coordinate development of individualized IEP and other plans of services for students.
    • Arrange and coordinate placement of students in appropriate services, track progress and assist in resolving services related problems or issues.
    • Coordinate, plan, and provide consultation and follow-up services for students and families to promote successful student adjustment.
    • Provide mental health diagnostic and assessment services as needed.
    • Provide counseling to students regarding behavior and school performance.
    • Provide counseling and consultation to parents regarding behavior management of child in the home.
    • Assist in coordinating clinical psychiatric evaluations and services, monitoring and tracking effects of psycho-tropic medications and serving as a liaison between parents, school and behavioral health services and needed.
    • Provide appropriate documentation in response to referrals.
    • Assist in educating and training of behavioral health, tribal and public school staff.
    • Serve as a facilitator or co-facilitator for treatment and support groups related to project AWARE as necessary.
    • Serve as a member of clinical team that meets weekly in order to present cases for clinical feedback and direction.
    • Learn Emergency Policies and Procedures and participate in required drills.
    • Attend educational workshops, review professional publications, and establish networks with other service providers that focus on providing coordination of services and treatment to families and children with SED.
    • Adhere to client confidentiality and comply with department policies and federal regulations under the Privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
    • Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
    • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

    Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:

    • Contact with Tribal Youth, adults, families, the general public, social services, court or legal systems and other agencies and providers deemed appropriate to accomplish effective services and treatment exercising discretion and judgment. Contact with Tribal Social Services in advocating for family/Indian Child Welfare dynamics of tribal mental health.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of cultural programming by learning of cultural teachings, participating in and coordinating cultural activities for clients, and by providing continuous support for enhancement of culture, language, and traditions.
    • Knowledge of the Recipient Rights Advisor processes and refers clientele as applicable.
    • Knowledge of patient evaluation and plan of care procedures.
    • Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards.
    • Knowledge of student outreach services and activities.
    • Knowledge and understanding of clinical social work and mental health counseling principles, methods, procedures, and standards.
    • Knowledge of grants management.
    • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
    • Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions, and implementing recommendations.
    • Skill in working with children and families.
    • Skill in maintaining accurate records.
    • Ability to build rapport quickly and effectively with clients and their families.
    • Ability to integrate training, experience, and common sense sufficient to identify potentially dangerous situations to resolve the situation with minimum injury to self or other persons.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers.
    • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to public speak, conduct formal and informal meetings and conferences.


    Physical Demands:

    • Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.
    • Required to sit for extended periods of time.
    • Occasionally walk and stand.
    • Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.


    Work Environment:

    • Normal office or school environment.
    • High stress level as associated with the demands of crisis interventions and emergencies is encountered as a result of challenges in the behavioral health field.
    • Mandated reporting of abuse and neglect can lead to personal challenges with exposure to victims of abuse.
    • High incidence of exposure to communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens.
    • Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
    • Travel may be required.

    Job Requirements

    • Masters degree in Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, or related field.
    • One year of experience in mental health services working with children and families of children with severe emotional disturbances.
    • Experience in working collaboratively across multiple organizations and community systems.
    • Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.


    Desired Qualifications:

    • Full licensure.
    • Experience with Native American traditions and culture.
    • Knowledge and experience with grant writing and reporting.


    License, Certification, or Special Requirements:

    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a limited license.
    • Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification.
    • Obtain HIPAA certification within five business days of hire.
    • Must have a valid State of Michigan Drivers License with the proper designation required for the vehicle utilized to perform the job duties; must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Drivers License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
    • Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
