- Efficiently and effectively plan and execute Flight Tests, including leading development of test plans, conducting flight safety, cyber, electromagnetic, and other pre-mission analyses, and supporting integration and test of payloads and subsystems
- Lead Test and Safety Readiness Reviews and support technical reviews such as Flight Readiness Reviews
- Evaluate results from experimentation activities and incorporate 'lessons learned' into future test activities
- Support development of post-test materials and documentation
- Develop and communicate test vehicle requirements and configuration to responsible engineering, maintenance, instrumentation, and operations personnel
- Effectively lead a multi-disciplinary test team to successfully implement a test on experimental or other platforms
- Coordinate and support remote based testing operations
- Ensure compliance with published test safety plans and standard operating procedures
- Assess vehicle, payload, and integration requirements at system level to identify appropriate flight test options and test strategies
- Support pre-flight integration and testing to include shock, vibe, EMI/EMC, thermal, acoustic, hardware/software-in-the-loop, etc.
- Assess test support and systems integration progress and trends of testing, identify problems and areas of concern for assigned systems
- Provide technical support and advocate integrated approaches to support test activities for which existing guidelines may not be available or applicable
- Develop and manage interface control documents
- Develop, define, and manage requirements for flight testing
- Develop verification and validation strategies
- Utilize multi-disciplinary engineering methodologies and risk management best practices to support successful test execution by identifying and mitigating technical and programmatic risks
- Develop and execute data management plans for collecting, analyzing, and preserving pre- and post-flight data
- Conduct and/or analyze technical analyses such as trajectory, aerodynamics, stability, thermal loading, dispersion, and environmental to support successful flight experiment execution
- Lead test planning to include mission requirements and planning, integration, execution, and evaluation
- Support flight vendors with FAA and test range regulatory processes
- US Citizenship
- Current AFRL Employee
- Strong and effective communication skills, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving skills
- Bachelor's degree in science or engineering from an accredited institution
- Proficiency with data analysis tools, e.g. Matlab, Python, etc.
- Applicants must currently hold, or have the ability to obtain, a DOD TS/SCI clearance
- Master's or PhD in Engineering, Physics, or in a related program
- Familiarity with AFRL or military research test and safety procedures, requirements, and documentation
- One to three years of experience planning and executing flight tests (air or space)
- Demonstrated ability to meet schedule and deliverables for multiple concurrent projects with a range of priorities
- Knowledge of military acquisitions and technical program management interactions with the AF contracting process

The Air Force Research Laboratory's Atomic Long-Range Systems Branch (AFRL/RVBN) seeks a highly motivated and experienced mid to senior career professional to plan, execute, and analyze testing of reentry vehicles in support of nuclear S&T research. Primary focus will be on performing successful flight tests to inform science and technology objectives. This interdisciplinary position is intended to be a lateral move for internal AFRL employees, but could be eligible for promotion based on OCS and Education/Experience.
