    Description

    Department: Athletic Program

    Pay Grade: N/A – Seasonal

    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

    JOB SUMMARY

    The primary task of the head coach is to recruit and maintain a team of eligible student athletes for the men's and women's track and field program. This involves establishing connections with high school coaches and engaging with students and parents. Additionally, the role includes supporting the college's mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities. Reporting to the Athletic Director, the position focuses on developing and expanding the track and field program.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Develop recruitment strategies for student athletes by fostering relationships with high school coaches and attending various events and meets
    • Understand the eligibility requirements for student athletes under NJCAA
    • Collaborate with the Athletic Director to create the Meet Schedule
    • Conduct team meetings for organization and communication
    • Establish practice schedules to enhance both individual and team skills
    • Coordinate with Athletic Director and/or Athletic Trainer for facility scheduling
    • Assist in recruiting and overseeing assistant coaches
    • Provide coaching and guidance on the rules, equipment, and techniques of the sport
    • Monitor student athletes during practice and competitions for areas of improvement
    • Ensure compliance with academic standards and supervise student athletes
    • Handle student injuries according to procedures
    • Adhere to regulations governing the athletic program
    • Demonstrate sportsmanlike behavior and professionalism towards all involved
    • Maintain equipment and uniforms as per guidelines
    • Participate in professional development activities to enhance coaching skills
    • Perform any other duties as assigned

    Job Requirements

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Experience as a head Track & Field coach or assistant coach at the high school or college level
    • Supervisory experience
    • Effective coaching techniques and skills
    • Thorough knowledge of the sport's rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques
    • Ability to build and maintain relationships with staff and student athletes

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Three years' experience
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The role involves light work with occasional exertion of force. Additionally, the following physical abilities are necessary:

    • Effective communication skills
    • Visual acuity
    • Mental concentration
    • Repetitive motion
    • Mobility and ability to lift/move equipment

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The work environment includes college campus, outdoor venues, and travel for meets. It also involves direct interaction with students, faculty, and the public in various settings. Safety precautions and adherence to regulations are essential.
