    (Contingent upon available funding): , Hourly Work Schedule: M-F 8 am to 5 pm (with on-call)) Faculty Appt Period: Job Summary: Instruct and assist year-four professional veterinary students. Maintain equipment and supplies inventory in clinical areas. Provide high quality veterinary technical assistance in several clinics/departments of the VTH including small animal medicine and surgery, small animal ICU, equine medicine and surgery, food animal medicine and surgery etc.Employee must be available after hours on a pre-scheduled basis for emergency duty. Compensation for after hours technical assistance complies with university stand-by and call-in compensation policy.     Minimum Qualifications:

    High School/GED

    Two years related experience; or Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program with two years related experience; or Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences or related area; or DVM degree or equivalent.

    Experience in restraint of small and large animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential. Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, copy machine, laser, video endoscope, diagnostic lab equipment, camera/video camera, electrodiagnostic equipment, etc.

    Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology

    Five years experience as a Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA or credentials in a specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.

    Ability to perform assigned tasks independently with minimal supervision.

    Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS).

    Veterinary Technician Career Development Plan provides promotional opportunities to Veterinary Technicians who continually demonstrate meritorious performance. Progression within the plan signifies an increase in skills, competencies and contributions to the hospital's goals and objectives. The increased contribution is above and beyond normal changes that are necessary to maintain satisfactory performance within an ever-changing business environment. While this plan provides promotional opportunities, it does not require career advancement. Neither does it preclude appropriate action for those who fail to meet a satisfactory standard of performance.
    Veterinary Technician Career Development Plan complies with all OSU policies and procedures. OSU reserves the right to modify, revoke, suspend, terminate or change any or all provisions of the Veterinary Technician Career Development Plan, in whole or part, at any time, with or without notice.
