Project Overview:


Job Summary:


This position is primarily responsible for the training, testing, qualification of Craft Professional Employees on one or more major construction projects in Bechtel's direct hire portfolio in North America.

This position will National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) administration, written and practical exams on projects, for administering Bechtel's Capabilities Assessment Program (CAP), and participating in the set up and maintenance of training facilities.

May provide training to craft employees and provide input to Workforce Development programs and procedures.

Position intended to support multiple small projects, some in the renewable energy sector.


Job Dimensions:

Supervision Received

  • Receives operational supervision from a Senior Industrial Relations Manager or an Industrial Relations Manager.
  • Receives functional supervision from a Workforce Development Manager.

Supervision Exercised:


  • Supervises project trainers and/or WFD administrator(s).

Contacts:


  • Has regular contact with the craft workforce and/or general public.
  • Regularly interfaces with industrial relations and construction management.

Major Responsibilities:

Industrial Relations/Labor Relations

  • Supervises project trainers and/or WFD administrator(s).
  • Provides guidance to site Workforce Development (WFD) managers for training to all levels of craft, journeyman, foreman and general foreman.
  • Performs and oversees other's performance of Verifications of Competency evaluations, and trains others in how to perform and record VOC Evaluations.
  • Performs NCCER administration of the craft training and certification program on projects, ensuring the company remains in strict compliance with NCCER regulations.
  • Responsible for project training facility layout, resource allocation, setup and maintenance.
  • May participate in the selection of evaluators/trainers on projects or the participate in /contribute to the design of WFD programs for the relevant business line.
  • Coordinates and monitors classes, instructors, facilities, class times, participants (level) and instructor evaluations on each project.
  • Coordinates planning, selection, training, recordkeeping, reporting, and compliance activities related to craft apprenticeship programs on projects.
  • Conducts training sessions/courses on projects as required to support the WFD program.
  • Collects, assembles, and analyzes training data and provides reports to site and WFS management regarding the projects training activities.
  • Maintains data in relevant IR/WFD systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:


  • Journeymanlevel experience in one or more construction trades (4+ years)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with craft employees, supervisors, construction managers, industrial relations, and others in a professional, respectful manner
  • Strong moral and ethical compass
  • Willingness to "lead from the front" on all safety related practices in the field be the example and teach the example of construction job site safety
  • Current or recent NCCER certification in one or more trades, or as a proctor or evaluator
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites across the USA to lend training support, sometimes for weeks at a time (expected travel 50% or more)
  • Basic knowledge of project training facility layout, resource allocation, and setup.

Required Knowledge and Skills:


  • Bilingual Spanish is greatly preferred
  • Current or recent NCCER certification as a Master Trainer
  • Prior experience on large construction projects in an EPC environment is preferred
  • Prior experience in setting up temporary facilities on construction or military is preferred
  • Prior experience in renewable ener
