Golden State Peterbilt located at 1450 S Union Ave who is a subsidiary of E.M. Tharp Inc.

is currently seeking Journey Level Technicians for their Bakersfield location to join our growing team This position is an essential position to the Service Department who performs advanced diagnostics and repairs on heavy-medium duty diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and other systems.

Troubleshoot complex issues using diagnostic software, technical manuals, and experience. Conduct thorough inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure fleet vehicles meet safety and performance standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Extensive knowledge of heavy truck systems and components, including engines, drivetrains, and emissions systems.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Strong problemsolving abilities and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fastpaced environment.

Qualifications and Skills

To effectively perform the duties of a Service Technician Level 3-4 individuals must be able to demonstrate several competencies that are essential to the position, which include:

  • Leadership qualities to effectively advise junior technicians.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with colleagues, customers, and parts suppliers.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and regulations governing the maintenance and repair of commercial vehicles.
  • Collaborate with foremen and parts department to coordinate repairs and order necessary components.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey technical information in the technician notes and to the foreman and or manager.
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and must be able to improve performance through management feedback.
  • Good computer skills.

In addition to the above to qualify for the Technician 5 level the following qualifications and skills are required.

  • Conduct expertlevel diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on PACCAR MX and Cummins diesel engines, encompassing a wide range of systems and components
  • Utilize advanced troubleshooting techniques to identify and address complex mechanical, electrical, and performancerelated issues.
  • Perform major engine overhauls, including disassembly, inspection, and reassembly, ensuring adherence to manufacturer specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform indepth performance evaluations and efficiency optimizations to enhance engine performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions compliance.
  • Stay abreast of the latest technical advancements, service procedures, and diagnostic software for both PACCAR MX and Cummins engines.
  • Extensive knowledge of PACCAR MX and Cummins engine systems, encompassing fuel injection, emissions control, turbocharging, cooling, and lubrication systems.
  • Proficiency in using specialized diagnostic tools, software, and instrumentation specific to both PACCAR MX and Cummins engines for accurate diagnosis and calibration.
  • Expertise in interpreting technical documentation, including service manuals, wiring diagrams, and engineering specifications, to guide repairs and modifications.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship abilities to supervise junior technicians, lead engine overhaul projects, and collaborate effectively with other departments.
  • Excellent communication skills for liaising with customers, service advisors, OEM representatives.

Education and Experience:
_Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.

Licenses and Certifications:


  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license. Class A preferred.
  • Not required but preferred completion of a diesel technology program or apprenticeship
  • Certification as a journeyman diesel technician or similar credential demonstrating mastery of the trade.
  • Ongoing training to stay current with advancements in diesel technology, emissions standards, and safety regulations.

Technician 5 levels must have the above and the following:

  • Completion of rigorous training programs or certifications offered by both PACCAR and Cummins, focusing on their respective engine technologies and service procedures.
  • Years of handson experience working with PACCAR MX and Cummins engines in a dealership, fleet maintenance, or specialized repair facility.
  • Continuous participation in professional development activities, such as workshops, seminars, and online courses, to stay current with evolv
